Greetings all! Three things! 1. I made a list of N1 Deck jackets that I know about and have a good reputation in the description. Please feel free to add your favorite too. 2. Apparently KZbin is "Auto-Dubbing" videos now and you may hear a robot voice translating what I'm saying into a different language. That's hilarious and I'm so sorry about that. I turned it off after a few of you messaged me but please let me know if you'd rather I have it on. If it's STILL on and KZbin disobeyed my wishes you can turn it off in the settings menu on the video. 3. The Mammoths are FINALLLY coming next week. Sign up to the email list for updates at theironsnail.us. Should get them out to you all very quickly from ordering (they are already in production, I'm just waiting for samples for photographing).

Now buy Oak Street's or Viberg's N1 Roughout boots. Then wear it with the N1 coat and schott's peacoat with a blue scarf.

Iron Heart N1/A2 deck jackets are super popular. I personally have their A2 which is kind of an upgraded version of the A2 (the actual A2 used a poly liner, Iron heart uses 100% wool). Very nice in the winter.

Freenote has a nice jacket they call the Mariner, similar design but without the button placket and a few other differences, it's made from Bedford cord with an Alpaca / Wool full liner and wool cuffs, it looks very cool and a bit less 'military' than the N1.

Cheaper option? I bought a WW2 Pea Coat (10 button) for like $55 and a 1967 Kersey wool US Nave Pea Coat for $60 both on Ebay and both within the last 2 months. You likely won't find a warmer jacket, and you definitely won't look better in any other coat.
@erwinc.91174 сағат бұрын
I have one from a military reenactment equipment store called AtTheFront, built very well and is very warm, goes for only 150. The artifical pile fur does look a little cheap but you can't fault it for the price and quality.
@adamr63Сағат бұрын
@@wheelsupbardown Real surplus Peacoats are the best deal out there in outerwear, the Kersey ones are so sleek and are incredibly warm and wind resistant with minimum bulk. I found a '60s Kersey in mint condition for CDN $150 (USD 100.00) in Montreal last summer and am amazed at the quality and feel of it, and those collars are incredibly practical in the wind.

My BR N-1 is good, not warm enough for the midwinter walk to work but definitely warm enough for my job as a driver who is in and out of the van all day. Their QC on button attachment could be better but I solved that by replacing them with slot buttons, which have the added benefit of having just a bit of lift, thus enabling easier buttoning/unbuttoning and adding less stress to the attachment points. Thanks as always!

The Navy also made a parka version available to officers. Knee length and alpaca lined hood. I have one and it's fabulous warm if not as flexible in terms of utility as the short length version.

Thanks Michael for another great vid, I learned a lot from this one, the accountant's role in outerwear history was rather unexpected. The Dehen jacket is gorgeous, the Heat Straps just looks and seems like overkill, I can't imagine wearing anything that sturdy. I used to wear an Alpaca sweater from Peru, loosely knit with a hairy texture, it was thinner than any other sweater I've owned but was still too warm for wearing indoors, even just with a T-shirt, just crazy insulating properties.

Excellent video and good to know that I am not the only one with "several" N1 jackets ;) My favorite N1 is the Freewheelers version. In comparison to the Buzz Ricksons, Dehen (don't like their zipper) and other brands like Bronson, the Freewheelers N1 is perfection.
@Oomph6006Сағат бұрын
Is the Bronson ok quality? The freewheelers looks really cool..
@erwinc.91174 сағат бұрын
I have one of these from AtTheFront, which is a company focused on reenactment gear. It went for around 150 USD which is obviously incredibly inexpensive compared to the options in the video, but it is still damn warm and handles freezing temperatures just fine in NYC, handles the wind well too. It is built incredibly well the outer cotton layer is really high quality. The only complaint is that the interior material (including the collar) looks rather cheap. But I mean, it is cheap, and looks aside it does keep warmth. I highly recommend.

It's funny, this week i was looking for my new deep winter jacket and was doubting between the N1 deck from Heatstraps and the Fjallraven expedition (lite, not the full on like in the vid). I came to the conclusion that even tho the n1 deck from Heatstraps is sooooooo cool that it would be no comparison in terms of real warmth to the Fjallraven so i went with the Fjallraven. Awesome vid!

I bought an Alpha Industries N1 jacket a long time ago. When I got it I was basically too fat for it but now after losing almost 80 pounds it's a little big on me, but I wear it. This version is not warm at all. I need to wear something insulating under it, but it does look nice.

I see Iron & Resin on the recommendation list and I have to say, IME Iron & Resin's stitching quality has been terrible on their imported jackets. I bought a bunch of jackets from them early on before I knew better, probably 8 or 9 because of the sales, and had stitching issues with all but one of them. I literally exchanged one of their Cruiser jackets 3 times to get one that didn't have seams coming apart from the factory. Their N1 was the least worst of the pieces I owned but I don't trust them and am extremely skeptical of their "lifetime repair" guarantee since they're just a retail store and the jackets are imported from Pakistan.
@TheIronSnail10 сағат бұрын
This is good to know! I haven’t had a ton of experience with them (held one piece one time) but bummed to hear that. A few people mentioned them already in the comments section so I’ll watch for a bit and see what the general consensus is and pull if needed
