I don't know if this might help you, Sarah. I was a flight attendant for 39 years and in all of those years, I experienced only one flight that startled me because of unexpected turbulence. The way that I put it all into perspective is that I feel that I am at greater risk by driving in the major metropolitan city that I live in. I hope that my perspective allows you to reframe your flight anxiety.

I loved that. If I ever flew again and didn’t go into a panic attack, I’d take a picture of the spot where I last had a panic attack and send it to friends and family. I begged my now ex to let me take a cab back home rather than get on the plane. Thankfully, my doctor prescribed enough medication to calm me. My boyfriend had never before been as attentive as he was then. I assume a crazed look was plastered on my face. I’m very claustrophobic with specific triggers. Prior to that day, airplanes weren’t triggers. We never flew anywhere again.

Sarah! I had commented on a vid in the past where you mentioned your flight anxiety, and I totally understand, and am so proud! I flew for the first time in my adult life 2 years ago, and then again this last January. I had a full blown panic attack in LGA, and felt like a baby chihuahua and begged my fiancee to go home. The only thing that's helped is ERP therapy of opposite action, aka doing it anyway and challenging the thoughts. "Sure, let's have a panic attack, bring it on. It can't hurt me." "Yeah what IF I lose control on this plane? There would be a hundred different safety measures in place." "What if I feel like I can't leave? I've endured worse." It's arduous and annoying to do, but does help over time, and I'm proud you went even though you didn't know this was happening!

I also have flight anxiety! I am traveling to Italy next May with my fiancé for our honeymoon! I have been to Italy twice already, the last time I went I brought anti-anxiety meds to keep me calm during the long flight. My fiancé on the other hand loves traveling and does not get nervous one bit hahah. We both have family in Italy so flying there will become a regular thing for us throughout our life together. Sarah, do you have any tips to avoid anxiety/panic attacks at the airport or on the plane? I am trying to get over this fear the best I can without medication if possible

I’m so sorry you struggle with anxiety when it comes to airplanes too. BUT if I could give you any advice it would be to start off small. I started doing 2 hour flights then 3 hour flights and sort of worked my way up. That was the best approach for me instead of just trying to force myself into flying 9+ hours all at once! Another thing that helped which might sound silly is that I just tried to convince myself it was really stupid to be afraid of a flying bus!! Sort of like tricking my brain into loving flying and making it feel less scary😂😂
