Since she also has family members who speak fluent Italian, Duolingo is great for some extra learning on her own time.

That's what we actually did with my Italian boyfriend. Labelling everything in the house with German / Italian words. Works great. He learned German and I learned Italian. And we had 2 days per week in which he spoke German to me and I answered in Italian (our "common language" was English). We split up 8 years ago and back then I spoke Italian quite ok (or the dialetto of his family). Now when I'm in Italy, I might sound similar to Sarah the first days... But honestly I still speak better than her, not having used or listened to the language for such a long time 🙈😅 Italian is such a beautiful language and not THAT complicated! Please Sarah, make the effort and learn it. For yourself and for him. There are even free Apps for that and you only need to dedicate 10 min per day ❤🎉

I think that's a good idea. You could help us learn Italian. It is a novel idea. No one else is doing that. I did an evening class in Italian just for fun. It was only a term. I learned more from sharing a house with an Italian or two who came to work in my lab. .....including some bad words like when the oil butter burned while cooking or when driving. They wouldn't repeat them of course but funnily enough they are the words I still remember!

You (English native speakers) are quite lucky if you want to learn Italian. In fact, English language is the most Latin language of the non-Latin languages 😅 Sometimes you have only to think to the synonymous of the word you are using everyday. My advice is to speak Italian as much as you can but Carlo also needs to speak Italian. I know for the purpose of the video he used English but off camera it would be really helpful. I mean not words, sentences and even if you don’t understand right now you will more and more :)

I think you should do this again. This way I might actually learn a bit of Italian :) I think Sarah, that you should learn and use Italian, so you can use it if you ever have children and they can grow up bilingual. Learning Italian nursery rhymes would be cute. I am Dutch and live in France, so our daughter learned French at school at Dutch at home and I taught her English as well, so now she is trilingual. I love the French nursery rhymes, as well as the Dutch and the English ones. Does Carlo not have a favorite Italian singer that you can learn the lyrics from as well? I would say go for it girl!

I did not know panorama was just "view" in Italiano. For us, panorama is "all the view", like different angles of the same location put into one picture or video. I hope I explained that correctly. I'm glad I learnt something that I did not know meant the same but with a slight or more specific/precise definition.

(Un verre de coke, sans verre) (Glass in english is the cup, in french it sound like "ice cubes") Basically asking the waitress to pour it into his mouth. Friendly place, she understood. A little help from Rome: IL LAVANDINO ...the sink LA DOCCIA ( perfect) IL GABINETTO (the toilett). Il GABINETTO, in general, means the whole restroom. The stuff where you seat to do your needs is generally called TAZZA ( cup) or WATER (in italian....VATER!). in a restaurant, if you are looking for the restroom, you may ask....where is IL GABINETTO? or, more elegant, ....where is IL BAGNO? Next time go to the other Senza Gluten BY JEMIKO. It's a much higher end (and traditional) Senza Gluten that the original chef created after he separated from the previous investors. The investors kept the old restaurant (the one you went to), and the chef runs the new restaurant on 10th avenue. They have Italians working at the By Jemiko location, and the food is much higher quality! It's a completely different place. 🙂
