My tribute to the great Middleweight champion, Carlos Monzon.
Carlos Monzon - Was an Argentine professional boxer who held the Undisputed World Middleweight Championship for 7 years. He successfully defended his title 14 times and is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time. Inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990, he was chosen by The Ring magazine in 2002 as the 11th greatest fighter of the last 80 years.

Hit hard as a mule. The 3 losses he had were very early in his career in 1963 and 1964. After that - the man won all of his fights - All the way to 1977. He won his last fight too - beating Rodrigo Valdes - defending both his WBC Middle Weight Title and his WBA Middle Weight Title. The cat stayed undefeated for 13 years...WOW. Amazing. Even more amazing is the fact that fighters seemed to be tougher back then - and he still stayed undefeated for over a decade. Respect.

When I was a kid I was in a plane with Monzon; I am not sure if it was from Paraná or from Santa Fe, to Buenos Aires. I was too young to remember. My little brother and I went to ask him for an autograph. He was very sweet; he took his time, and joked with my little brother, asking him to spar with him when we got to Buenos Aires. I read a lot of comments putting down Monzon´s personal life. I am not going to defend what is indefensable. But he had good friends too, that says something... that means he was not all bad. For instance, Mickey Rourke went all the way to the prison in Santa Fe to visit him. The older I get, the more I learn to try to suspend my judgments.

Carlos Monzon, if he had been American, would have entered the legend of world boxing and earned millions of dollars, unfortunately being Argentine, his merits and greatness have not been recognized. First of all he was not a brawl boxer, he did not like to fight in the ring, he was clean, elegant, Mohamme Ali jab, right from KO more devastating than Mike Tyson's right who destroyed his opponents with a firestorm, Carlos Monzon with only two shots, left jab and immediately after the right load of dynamite knocked down the opponents. I would like to point out a feature that only the greatest boxer in boxing history possessed in the world, Mohammed Ali. Ali hit while backing away dancing like a dragonfly, very elegant footwork, extraordinary athletic training, I don't remember other great champions who hit while backing away. they won by attacking from the first to the last round, Ali and Monzon won by staggering even for 15 rounds, fans of my generation can say, I was there and I saw them fight.

@@cxrgaming923 I think he's the greatest before during and after he fought he had a fantastic chin, great footwork and head movement, brilliant combination pushes, blinding hand and foot speed, a superb jab, a terrifying left hook and a nasty right hand. I think there are boxer with better jabs, better left hooks, upper cuts, right hands, footwork, defence and even combantions but no had all of the above and his rhythm plus his ability to make small adgustments is in my mind and humble opinion why I think that he could beat the best of any decade ever

Great stuff! The music really fits him. He does remind me of a guy from a western. Also, seeing that clip at 2:39, I can't help but wonder how a fight between Monzon and Hagler would go. Monzon had a long reach for a middleweight, and knew how to use it; that, and the fact that he had an iron chin makes me think he would give Hagler a lot of problems

I guess you'd have to look at the hearts fight to see how it could go. there are some similarities between them. It seems to me that Hearns is better, or at least looks better. but he didn't do what Monzon did In terms of defences of his tittle. so yeah, Hagler would have to fight the same fight he did against Hearns. I think so anyways.
