been enjoying it many years but i had this track in a playlist i made a year ago, it was just recently making its' way into my memory while checking out a different song somewhere else. i could not stop ransacking my mind until i remembered exactly which song it was. love the vocal on here, he nails it! that "freedom!! talkin' bout freeeedommm! this is a time for liberation!" and the drums and guitars are freaking perfect right there with the double stops. Santana knows just the right moments to layer in his guitar to keep the tension high while the number slowly rumbles along as if they're fighting in the trenches of a fierce battle, the battle for the redemption of our souls. revolution song!

I know a guy who idolized Santana. He not only had every record Carlos ever released, but he is a professional Gibson repair guy & better than most. I'd trust him with a 100k guitar & people do all the time. He gets them shipped to him for repair from all over the US. One night, he was asked if he might like to meet Santana. Of course, he jumped at the chance to meet him. He was introduced and my friend extended his hand. Santana wouldn't even shake the man's hand! He said, he went home & threw all his Santana CDs and records into the garbage. I don't blame him. I was never a huge fan but i liked his music, now however, i couldn't care less. He sounds like another stuck up piece of crap to me.

He probably didnt want to because he was tired from the show. Carlos never rests or leave the stage. Just because he didnt shake his hand doesnt mean your friend should go throwing everything away. Hes not mean on the records/cds

This sounds awful-- crushing, in fact-- and I don't doubt your friend's account. However, disappointment on meeting one's heroes is not uncommon, if only because our expectations run impossibly high-- at the level of myth-- and even the best of us are all-too-human, and have off moments. There are many reasons why Carlos may have appeared ungracious, including performance- and fan-fatigue, as another commentor suggested. I have close relatives and friends in the music industry-- players and producers-- who have worked with Carlos, and to a one, they describe him as one of the nicest, most approachable people they've ever met. A close friend's sister lived next door to him for years and said he used to carry out her trash for her and help her do odd jobs around the house when she was disabled. A student of mine was begging for change in front of a store in her down-and-out days, and said a Mexican guy stopped to ask her if she had eaten recently. She said, "No," and he told her to wait there for a bit. He returned some time later with a bag of groceries and a rose, and gave her a $50.00 bill! She asked his name and he said, "I'm Carlos, at your service," smiled, and walked away. She later saw a picture and realized who it was. This doesn't sound like a "stuck-up piece of crap" to me. Does it really make sense that a total jerk could play such soulful, emotionally-poignant music? So, I am sorry for your friend, but please don't make the mistake of judging a person by one incident, especially someone who is constantly operating in the space of performance and social expectations. Even stars don't want to be "on" all the time. Give people the benefit of the doubt, and practice the Principle of Charity; everyone has bad moments despite their best intentions, and none of us are the sum of even our worst mistakes. Carlos has certainly done enough good through his music and his philanthropy to be given a break, here.

@@willmercury I can take that back. He's not a stuck up piece of crap, and in fact i don't know him, and haven't met him. I was speaking from what my friend had said, and it was my own reaction to what he said, when he told me he wouldn't shake his hand. I can't say i'd have reacted differently with my favorite artist. If you would have then, that's fine too.
