Thanks, Carl. I looked at Day One a bit when trying to pick a journal app, but I settled on Journey as it was nicely cross-platform. I've been using Journey as my journaling work app for a couple years now. I really like that I can go back (using labels and search words) to see how I did something. For example, I needed the command line for the steps in updating my webserver's SSL certificate and it was right there. Great for meeting notes and whatnot too. I just wish that they had not taken out the ability to use Markdown to format the text. Tis nice to be able to put source code in fixed font, etc.

Morning and evening routines are maybe the only parts of my life, I am not tracking at all. I think it's not necessary and I use this time to disconnect. I am connected the whole day. So in the morning - I drink a coffee, when I like to drink one. 😃 But, still a great video. I love DayOne. Since 10 years I have some entries there. In total 5273 entries! Starting with a Journal of my son, a plane ticket journal, unsent tweets (🤭), a Travel Journal and of course a personal journal - everything I add to DayOne. A truly great app!

Hi Carl, I like to keep it simple. I use Google Calendar (as my calendar + journaling, because you can add text and photos), Google Keep for my to-do lists (connected with my calendar) and Evernote for everything else. I don't see the reason of adding more apps like DayOne (that I used in the past). I tried a lot of apps, but I always come back to Evernote (or Notes in your case) and my calendar + to-do list. Only 3 apps. Nothing else is worth extra costs. Everything you do in DayOne can be done in Evernote/Notes or a calendar app. Thanks for your interesting videos.

I decided to revisit this episode having watched it a few months ago. Gotta a lot more out of it this time. I am a Day One subscriber. However, rarely use it. You have given me incentive to realize a return on my investment. Morning routine using custom Template is a fabulous idea! I have two questions - "Are you setting up the current day's morning routine the night before? Or, doing it 1st thing the same day? Do you have a ToDoist task reminding to populate the Day One template? Videos that make you think are the best teaching tools! Thanks Carl!

I start the new day in Day One as part of my morning routine. It's coffee > stretches > meditate > write in Day One > check email > start work. So I don't need a reminder in Todoist. It's just how I start every morning.

The routines I track in DayOne are more habits I want to develop. Hu Rodney, I treat my journal as something completely different from work. It's about me as a person and tracking my personal development. Most of the routines I have in Todoist are work-related (or house chores) the checklist I have in Day One is about making sure I am working on myself. The other problem you will have is Day One will not be giving you any reminders to do anything. All you can create is a checklist for the day you are on.
