Robinsons Place: "Huge Shopping Mall" Iligan City, Mindanao, Philippines

Well we have finally got a shopping mall to be proud of here in Iligan City with the arrival of "Robinsons Place" We have waited a very long time for something like this to come to Iligan City, and i have been saying for a long time now that Iligan City is a city very much on the up, as many new businesses are opening here on a daily basis, and this Mall is already getting many people coming through the doors, and it only opened on Wednesday.. When i went to Cebu City and visited the SM seaside mall, which is the 6th largest shopping mall in the world, i said then that if this mall was in iligan City it would be full, because the seaside mall as grand as it is, was almost empty on a Saturday afternoon.. Our Robinsons Mall here in Iligan City also has a large hotel, and at one point i will book a room there just so i can show everyone what its like there.. One thing i would mention about this Robinsons mall that i didn't like, and that was the supermarket, it was much smaller than i had expected, and i was very disappointed with that, and i have heard
many other people around here saying the same thing, but this seems to be a common thing here in the Philippines with these large malls, and that is the supermarkets in them let them down, the planners should take a trip to England and see how Tesco runs a supermarket, and to see how a supermarket should be laid out, but apart from the supermarket this is one good mall, and i would recommend this Mall to anyone, but one thing i must also mention about outside this mall before you visit, if you don't own a car, and you live out of the area, you will have a job getting a taxi or Jeepney home, it took us ages to get a taxi as there does not seem to be anywhere for a taxi to park and collect passengers, and this needs to be addressed and fast, and getting a Jeepney is just as much a problem at the moment, we were so hot and dripping in sweat while standing outside in the blazing heat trying to wave down a taxi or Jeepney, and to be honest my journey home from here spoiled my day, so be prepared...

Hiya, there are a lot of people that don't like shopping malls, but i think they are great places, and more importantly safe places to take our kids.. We have no play areas in Iligan City, so coming to places like this is a good way to let your kids have a good run around without worry of them being run over by the many dangerous drivers on the roads here.. Hi Angie & Dan, there are a lot of people that don't like Malls, but i think they are great places, it's good to have everything under one roof, as there is one thing i don't like doing in the Philippines with all this heat, and that's going from one shop to the other around the city.. Hello Andre, you know when you go into any building it does have a certain feel to it, and from the moment i walked into this mall it felt good.. Yeah lots of open walk areas, and that's very important to me, as i get a bit claustrophobic in small areas, i love open spaces, maybe that's because i have spent most of my life outdoors in open areas, but it was a different story in the supermarket here, i didn't like it, but i will give it another go.. Yeah as soon as Tilly saw that slide she was over there.. They have proper play areas for kids here, you have to pay a fee to go into them but it's worth every peso, and Tilly will be going into one of them very soon.. Carl, I remember when SM Mall opened in Cauayan in 2015. That was an exciting day for our town as well. It is amazing the amount of people these malls draw in. Sorry to hear of your misadventure finding a taxi afterwards. You would think they have made a dedicated taxi or tricycle lane to pick up passengers. That really would be a put off to going if having to stand around for an hour to get a tricycle after spending time at the mall. We have both a dedicated tricycle lane and also the have a jeepney terminal that connect to our mall. I was a little disappointed in our SM supermarket as well. Not for the size, but the selection. I thought they would bring in more international items, but the selection for us is still not that good. We often avoid shopping at the SM Supermarket and just go to one of the other markets in town where the prices seem to be a little cheaper. Overall, I hope things will improve with the tricycles and taxi lanes and you and your family can go and enjoy the mall on occasion.

Hello Steve, it is quite an exciting time here in Iligan city with the arrival of this mall, and don't forget we are still under Martial Law here, so anything that can take us away from all the troubles here in Mindanao has got to be a good thing.. Am sure in time a dedicated place to get a taxi will be put in place, because it was a total nightmare trying to get one, and people were almost fighting to get into one, and people could easily have been run over by the cars in the main road outside with all the mayhem going on.. Oh i love this mall, but have already decided i wont be using it to buy my weekly groceries, but will use it just to hang around in and buy all my other stuff, a good meal, maybe a movie, or even try out one of the hotel rooms lol, oh what a life (smile) cheers mate have a good one...

Well i think CDO is already right up the top, i have been going there for nearly 5 years now, and it's a great city, but i have seen so many changes here in Iligan City since 2012 which is when i first came here, it really does seem to have new businesses popping up everywhere, and now the big malls are moving into the area, and i hear there are more malls to follow, and with so many people living in this area now i think they will fill them all.. Yeah this is a really nice Mall, but sadly i heard the other day that part of it had collapsed, i believe it was the bit near the hotel, but i have not been back there since i heard this news so can't confirm how much damage there actually is.. yeah i go to CDO quite often, and had even thought about moving there at one point, yes all the people i have met there over the last five years have been really nice.. Hi Derek, that's what we are planning on doing, having a meal, watching a movie, and we may even stay there one night in their hotel, but am not sure if that is open yet, as believe it or not this mall is not actually finished, they are still building on it.. Hello Malou, we do have another Mall here in Iligan City, it the "Gaisano Mall" but it's nowhere near the size of this one, and it is a good mall, it's just the supermarket once again that also lets The Gaisano down, and believe me the supermarket in the Gaisano Mall is total rubbish, but at least one can get a taxi from outside to get home, unlike this one lol, but am sure this new mall will soon sort out the problem of getting a taxi, otherwise it's gonna be two jeepney rides for us to get home, and they will be packed Jeepneys on that route too, thanks Malou.. Oh i will still be going to CDO from time to time, i like going there, plus it's a good day out involving a 2.5 hour coach trip, thanks my friend...

Well this is a very large Mall, and it's in a very built up area with many people living close by, so i think this was a good move for Robinsons picking this area to build this Mall, but for people living not so close, like me, getting home from here EG by Taxi or Jeepney it's not so good, but i am sure sure an area will become available for Taxi's to pick up shoppers from here, because at the moment once outside this mall it's total chaos.. Yeah i agree a big space for the supermarket is very important, and i wish the supermarket in here had much more space, but hey i love this mall, and i am going here again tomorrow evening, but not to the supermarket lol, great to see you here, thanks my friend...

Hiya, i love going to the malls here in the Philippines, they are amazing buildings and safe places to take our kids, but i always thought how out of contrast they are compared to all the other buildings around here, with the corrugated sheeting that covers most peoples homes sometimes a stones throw away from these malls, and i wonder what the really poor people who are sometimes living right outside these buildings must be thinking, and the ones sleeping in doorways, when they see all who are coming and going in and out of these malls, and knowing the security guards would never even let them in.. Yeah some of these mall are fantastic, and better than some of what we got back in England.. I understand you missing the Philippines, i miss England very much, but when i back there i miss the Philippines too, thanks for watching, and sorry for the long reply, but am in a philosophical mood lol..

The thing i like about the Malls MS, is that everything is under one roof, and when you live in such a hot country as i do here, the last thing i need is to be running around all over the place and sweating buckets.. These malls also have good aircon, and i tend these days to avoid going places where they don't have aircon lol, but yeah coming here is a good experience.. to many people for me Carl, I try to avoid crowds, we have a Wall-Mart here in Kenosha, I try by best not to go there .Shopko and Kmart have less people. Good video and thank you so much for sharing. What do you carry in your backpack ? I never need one. Tilly had fun at the end of your video.

I am a bit like you Greg, i don't like crowds of people around me, i much prefer large open spaces with not many people around, but here in the Philippines everywhere you go it's crowded, and the streets outside are packed solid, so it's actually less crowded in places like this.. What do i carry in my backpack, well that all depends on where i am going, when i am with Tilly it's normally bottles of water, wet wipes for Tilly, change of clothes for Tilly, hairbrush for Tilly lol etc etc, but on this occasion i used my bag to put the few bits in i bought from the supermarket, but my back is filled with completely different stuff when i go out hiking, but there is always water in the bag, cheers mate, have a good one...

Amazing to see these myriads of people standing in the queue waiting for the gates to open, lol. Must be early hour when you got to the shack. I think it’s worth the wait tho, as the place looks pretty awesome and exciting. It’s inspiring to know that Iligan now has this somewhat upscale shopping hub on offer for the locals. I can only hope that the place wouldn’t be ravaged and vandalized by the presence of some informal vendors and street peddlers, just like what I saw in Gaisano Mall not too long ago, which never looked very pleasant. And hold on to your credit cards Carl, don’t let those shop hustlers howl over you hahahaha. Over all, you guys look having great fun.👍

This is one good mall, and i think Iligan city is one good city, and very much a city on the up.. I do like this Mall, everything about it is good, and one can have a real good day out here.. Do some shopping in the many stores here, have a good meal, and then go and watch a movie in an awesome cinema, and all done in a very well air conditioned environment.. It's perfect.. It's a bit more expensive than the Gaisano mall, but one don't mind paying that little bit extra for the better experience in coming here.. Many thanks for watching...

Hi Jane, am sure when you visit here you will have a great time, this is a good mall, with plenty to do here, and one could quite easily make a whole day of it here.. They have a great cinema, lots of nice places to eat, many quality shops, and even have a hotel, but i think that does not open until next month.. The downside to this mall was the supermarket, i have been to it a few times now, and each i have been very disappointed, and i wont be going to the supermarket again.. Thanks for watching...

Mabay ps we renovated my grandmas old house recently it's big from 1954 she's turning 90 this month maybe you could stop by I got a place if you'd like to stay awhile free of course, and we got these long rare mangoes that are just coming in see ya Carl bye oh ya and the renovation is nearly done very soon.

Hello Lucia, well the only downside for me was getting home, it was very hard work trying to get a taxi, but i think when a proper taxi pick up point is established it's going to be much easier and more enjoyable to visit, but apart from that this is an awesome shopping mall, and i might be going back there tomorrow afternoon, but not for grocery shopping lol, thanks my friend, have a good day there...

Well it's a new mall Kevan and the doors had not long opened when we got there and started filming, but lots of people came in with their mouths open, amazed at just how nice it is here.. Lots of people were spending, the usual Chow King and Jollibee were packed out, but i got my eye on a new TV (smile) and i just might go back at the weekend and pick one up.. The Supermarket was OK, but it just fell short of what me and a lot of other people were thinking it would be, it's quite small, and the prices were as expected, a little bit more than elsewhere (Grin) but hey ho i had a great time, apart from my journey home, but that's another story as they say, cheers mate...

Hi Ray, well most malls are the same really, i have been to five of them in total since i have been to the Philippines, but this is the best one we now have in Iligan City, and i have been to two in CDO, Ayala and SM, which i would say Ayala was the better one there, but so far i am preferring our new Robinsons mall to both of the ones in CDO i have visited, but probably the best one i have been to was the Giant SM seaside mall in Cebu City, that one is the 6th largest in the world, and it is a very impressive looking mall, and if i was living in Cebu City i would probably be using that one all the time.. Hey good luck on your future travels, and am sure you will have a great time in CDO and also Iligan City if you come, thanks for watching and have a safe journey...
