Palao Public Market (2) Iligan City, Mindanao, Philippines

Here we have another video from Palao public market, and we have been using this market quite a bit recently.. We got quite a few good markets here in Iligan City but this is our favourite.. Hi Malou, i like making market videos, it's much better than just sitting in front of a screen doing Vlogs, they really are lazy videos.. Yeah lots of fresh food in this market, and one could spend many hours in this market, and they also have a place here where you can sit down and eat.. Before i came to the Philippines i always watched videos of life on the streets here and every day living type of videos, i personally found them much more interesting than Vlogs.. I've have been here four years now Amay and there is still many places around the city i have not been yet, but we have started to use this market more often as most of it is indoors, so you don't have to worry about getting burnt in the sun, or having to get there early of late to avoid the sun, you just go there when you want.. It's a great market, and it's the best one i have visited since i have been in the Philippines and i have been to quite a few.. It’s amazing to see that no matter where you go, people’s cultural backgrounds are always identified though their food choices. People in Iligan for example, being regionalistic in their food patterns based in its geographical location, are somewhat dependent on the availability of seafoods resources relative to the production and consumption of food products. Personally in this case, I’m a firm believer that seafoods truly is king of the table. I can absolutely live with it all my life. Thanks for the seafoods market tour Carl. Great work! 👍👍

Yeah i would agree with you on what you are saying here, Iligan city is a fishing area, and the markets are full with various fish, and with many different people selling them too, and the competition helps keep the prices competitive, which is a good thing for us buyers.. They got quite a lot of markets around here James, and i do visit quite a few of them, but this is my favourite, and one of the main reasons for this apart from the food being nice and fresh, is that most of it is under cover, which means you wont get burnt in the hot sun, and i hate the hot sun lol, cheers mate..

You brought good memories of the city where I lived for 11 years. I miss it very much. I used to jog from Tibanga and turn around at this Palao Market where I buy fresh fruits and jog back home. It used to be less crowded compared to the old market by the pier. Yeah, Muslims there are very friendly but the women are quite stand offish to Christian men and I respect that, it's part of their religion and culture. You can not ignore it though- many of them are good looking. I hope Iligan City in general is safe for you and your family. HAPPY HOLIDAYS and LOTS OF GOOD CHEER.

Hello Willie, i go to Tibanga quite often, i visit the Jollibee there as it's the only one with a play area upstairs, and where my daughter gets a chance to play with other kids, she loves going there.. Hey i find the Muslim ladies to be very friendly, and they quite often come up to me and start to talk, and they always make a fuss of my daughter too, but then i have found most of the Muslim community to be very welcoming and friendly to me.. Yeah i think Iligan City is as safe as anywhere can be these days, all of Mindanao gets bad press coverage, but it's a great place to live, and it's a city that's on the up with many big business coming into the area, including a very large Robinson Mall that should be open i hear by May 2017.. So pleased my video has brought back some good memories for you.. Happy Christmas...

Hello Andre, i have been going to them quite a lot recently, it's a much cheaper way for one to buy their food here, and it's a much fresher way too, plus i prefer the atmosphere they have compared to supermarkets, and we have also been visiting the night market more too, and we have been going there to pick up our Lechon for dinner, and some footage from there should be my next video on here, cheers mate, hope you had a great Christmas day.. Hi Gloria, yeah we do get a lot of attention when we go out, most of the time i don't mind but sometimes it can get a bit irritating.. Hey we just got back from the mall as Yvonne forgot to get some pineapple juice, as she is planning to make some pork hamonado tomorrow, and the supermarket was like an ant colony lol, it took us 1.5 hours waiting to get to the cashier, and i thought of you working in Tesco back there, and how quick the girls on the till are taught to work fast with a smile.. I kept the long queue entertained though with a few sarcastic remarks, like "We will all be senior citizens by the time we get seen, and that includes my daughter' and "I would have grown a beard by the time i get seen" lol, i could go on with my sarcasm but i would be here all day (smile) but i hate standing in a queue.. Oh yeah Yvonne kept saying Ha... Ha... Well we spend most of our time grunting and groaning at each other as neither of us fully understands what the other is saying, and sometimes it can be really funny, but we get by just about lol, oops this is a long reply, got aching fingers now, Happy Christmas my friends, hope you all have a fun day tomorrow...

Ha ha, oh i always try not to buy anything i don't need Carol, but i love walking around the markets and there is always bargain to pick up.. hmm 132 Peso, i guess that's about $2.32 with the current exchange rate.. Hope you had a nice Christmas day there, the day after Christmas we had a flash flood here, and my neighbour had their home flooded, i saw the water rising up towards their front door and kept shouting out trying to warn them, and flashing my torch into their home, but by the time they saw me it was to late as the water started to enter their home, i had my shorts on at the time and waded over to their home and helped lift as much as i could onto the table and sofa, but they had no upstairs and nearly everything got wet, including mattress which were on the floor with no base.. i did feel sorry for them, but all the time i was over there i was watching the water rise at my home, and another 2 inches and i would have been flooded too, but i got an upstairs so it would not have been so bad for me.. it's was nearly 5 years to the day that we had that Sendong Typhoon flood here where 1500 people died almost right outside my front door, you could not help but think about that happening again.. Yeah i would say that was very true, so much produce which is sold in the Philippines comes from Mindanao, they don't get as many Typhoons here as they get elsewhere in the Philippines, and that's gotta help with farming of any sort, thanks for watching...

Good question, i never seem to see any of these foods arrive or depart, but they always seem to be very fresh, maybe they take some of it over to the night market from here to be sold, i was at the night market only the other night and bought some Lechon, and man was it nice.. Hi Tara, oh i am rubbish at giving directions as i can't say the names around here, but i remember you saying how you were from CDO so you might know this area better than me, but it's near the PLDT office, you just keep walking past there, and it's along the same road the very first Jollibee that came to Iligan City is.. That's the best i can do (smile), i still get lost walking around the city when on my own, but i always ask where the mall is to get back on track ha ha, have a nice day and thanks...
