Carlsbad Caverns National Park - 5 Tips for Visiting
Here are some more attractions in the area worth visiting:

In this video I'm going to give you 5 tips for visiting Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico. Carlsbad Caverns is located in SouthEastern New Mexico just 27 miles from Carlsbad, and 149 miles from El Paso. Nearby is Guadalupe Mountains National Park.
In this video I cover hours and the new reservation system, RV parking and pets, food options, what to expect on the hiking trails, and lodging near Carlsbad Caverns.
Starting during the pandemic, Carlsbad Caverns now requires advanced reservations to enter the cave. Reservations can be made online at www.recreation.gov/ticket/234.... It is $1 per person to reserve a time slot. You have an hour to enter Carlsbad Cavern after your designated time. This reservation fee does not include admission that is charged separately. You will need to show proof of your reservation and there is no cell service so I recommend printing a hard copy. Carlsbad Caverns tickets are $15/per person 16 and older. Children 15 and younger are free.
Pets are not allowed to stay in your vehicle at Carlsbad Caverns. They do offer kennels on site and the are available first come/first serve for $10/day. There is no overnights parking at Carlsbad Caverns.
I recommend to pack a lunch for your stay. There is an onsite restaurant at the gift shop, and a snack bar at the caverns, both were closed when we went to eat. Be sure you are familiar with the hours if you count on eating there. There is no food or drink in the caverns.
Come along with me as I hike down the Natural Entrance, this hike is 1.25 miles into the cavern and you descent 75 stories. For those who can't hike in, elevator access is available and there are handicap accessible trails inside.The Carlsbad Caverns elevator is quick and convenient!

We would love to visit here some day! I am glad there is an elevator in the caverns. I think we could make the hike down and walk around the Big Room. But I am not sure we would be up for hiking back up to the top. Glad to know we have a more leisurely ride back up. These caverns look stunning. Thanks for sharing these tips!

My parents and I and my brother went to this cavern back in the early 70's. It was not all commercialized at all like it is now. No gift shops, restaurants or any thing. I was 10 or 11 at the time. We did see the bats also. Before they opened it up to tourists, it was just a hole in the ground, about 3 or 4 feet in diameter. Wow it sure has changed.
@SwiftyTravels

My wife and I have gone thru these caverns a total of three times. This was way back in the early '60's. I was stationed at Roswell while in the Air Force. At that time they had pretty much the same program that they have in your video.Myself, I enjoyed the walk down to the big room as much as i did the big room tour itself. Will have to say that seemed like we saw something a little different each time we went thru. The only thing I could see that different was the lunch room in the big room. It was only a box lunch and always little on the stale side to me. Also stayed one time for the bat flight. That proved to be quite educational and fun to experience.
@SwiftyTravels

Thanks for sharing!! It seems like the formations aren’t as sparkly as I remember in the past. Other than that it still endures!😀

YAY! I was hoping that you were going to cover the cave when you published your last video and made reference to the distance to Carlsbad. It's such a unique cave experience in that you can explore at your own pace and not have to worry about keeping up with a tour (a vlogging nightmare, right? 😅). You know, I don't think the snack bar was open during our trip out there either. I wonder if it is a temporary casualty of the pandemic?

Carlsbad Caverns National Park was one of my favorite family vacations as a child. Oddly, we never took the girls, and Bill has never been. I discovered I love visiting caves. When we went to Guadalupe I tried to talk Bill into going, but he said maybe next time. Great tips and good to know. I wonder if they let you know on their website if the snack bar is open. The bats are so cool. You make me want to go back so bad. I do remember the Big Room, and some of the other features, but I feel like I've forgotten so much. Doesn't look like White City can house all the visitors that Carlsbad gets in a year; especially in the summer.

I'm pretty sure most people stay in the town of Carlsbad. The caverns are so magical, no matter what age! I'm not sure what was going on with the snack bar. I checked the website, and it didn't match the published hours. Thanks so much for watching!

and for one food at the bottom of the cave is kinda over priced, so id just eat before going into the cave. and one very good recommendation is, make sure the elevators are working before u go, or u will be hiking back up.

This is a GREAT video! Thank you so much or this! We will be there on dec 26 2022. After arriving in Albuquerque in the am of Christmas, on the 26th, early, start from Albuquerque and make a day driving and visiting Roswell along the way, so by the time we get there the park will be closed. So we will begin our Journey at the park on the 27th. What do you recommend we can do on the evening hours of the 26th?

I’m not 100% sure you can take stroller the entire way- but it is paved. I know you can elevator down and there is a path down in the cavern that you could take strollers or wheel chairs. I’m just not sure if you can walk down the natural entrance with strollers. Its just steep but it is paved
