Hi Bernard! I actually live by that lagoon and am looking to get into fishing. Any recommendations you can make on purchasing a rod, bait, time of day to fish, etc?
@bnardo_724 күн бұрын
@@slicknix6707 Im glad you’re going to get into fishing! Honestly I’d start with a Walmart set up, I still fish them. A good rod from there is the uglystick GX2 combo. (I currently have it) For around $50. Bait, I prefer using shrimp, that’s been the most reliable for me. Usually with a 2-3 ounce weight and 2 hooks (tied on with dropper loops). Either size 6 hooks for smaller fish or size 1 to minimize bycatch. Time of day is usually 2 hours before/after tide change (you can use tides4fishing.com ). I prefer the morning but night is productive as well. I know it’s a lot of information but I hope it is helpful! If you have any other questions shoot away!

Thanks for watching! I’m using some ugly sticks from Walmart the gx2 about 15lbs capacity but paired with Penn pursuit 4000 with 20lbs braid. Pretty inexpensive but very solid set ups! I never really pulled the trigger on expensive gear unless it’s for big game and then I get the best deals 😂

Sup bro. I love your vids im a local young fisherman at cbad and love catching calicos. Were you using shrimp for the wrasse?
@bnardo_72 ай бұрын
Hey brother! Thank you for watching! Calicos are a fun species to catch! I was using shrimp for the wrasse but got lucky with the foul hook. I think to get a bite with them you would need a size 6 hook because of how small their mouths are but if another species bites, you can possibly gut hook them.
@LilTayRX2 ай бұрын
@@bnardo_7 yea their mouths are just like opaleye. There are actually mullet and I think yellowfin croakers in that lagoon it’s super cool. I’ve never caught one but hope to do so!
@bnardo_72 ай бұрын
I’ve never got a mullet yet, I think they are vegetarian. Croaker are great! I never got one on the lagoon but on the jetty next to the lagoon I’ve caught some. Probably a good 15-20 feet away casted out north at about 3/4ths of the way out on the rocks.

It is sad! I heard of the news recently. I’m sure fishing will decline dramatically and the water will be affected largely. San Diego Bay fishing will probably pick up with the transfer over but at the cost of the Carlsbad lagoon
