@hardmanfishing2 ай бұрын
Yessir! Streams that area easily effected by drought, heatwaves, and floods typically don't produce large fish. A lot of these streams are pretty resistant to that sort of thing which is why they're so good! Although most of these areas do flood multiple times a year LOL

Can’t wait for my nc highways to be fixed so I can drive over to my favorite rivers and check em out 😅 peace out man!!
@andersed12 ай бұрын
Yes, you can check your rod and reel. I recommend taking your reel off your rod and putting your rod in a capped pvc tube. Baggage handlers are not your friend. Bury your reel in your suitcase to protect it.

@@andersed1 can I take multiple reels?
@hardmanfishing2 ай бұрын
I've traveled with fly rods and reels several times. You can put it all in checked baggage if you want or take it on the plane as long as it breaks down far enough. You can literally take guns in checked baggage... so a fishing reel is nothing LOL 😂

Love your videos! How do you find your water? Is it mostly "private" water now? I'm not asking for exact spots, but just curious what your process for choosing good water is. I'm in Georgia and have hit some public water with few fish seen. We have done pay guided water for trophies as well. Thank you
@hardmanfishing2 ай бұрын
Nope! All of the water I fish is public. I just don’t like the idea of paying people to fish what should be a public resource. Having said that I know some states like Georgia have some crazy laws restricting public access. As far as finding big fish I just happen to live around some really good water, but I do know there are a few places in Georgia where you can catch nice trout on public water.

@budfahnestock24182 ай бұрын
i'm curious if these spots are "trophy spots" where everyone knows there's big fish so they kind of curate them, always releasing so that they can be continually caught. I have dozens of rivers/streams up by me (upstate ny, near the adirondacks) that don't hold anything over 18"-20", i've fished them my whole life and don't know anybody that's pulled anything bigger out of them. The only river near me that has fish this big is the delaware, but fishing that can get really difficult with how much pressure it gets. Boat/outriggers is the only way i've found to actually pull in one of these monsters on the delaware too.
@hardmanfishing2 ай бұрын
Ehh idk if I'd call them "trophy" spots, but the people who fish them do know they hold large fish. But most of the streams you see me catch big fish out of are just very productive and / or get very little fishing pressure from good anglers.

not hardman but My favorite rod by far is an orvis Clearwater 7’6 4wt its $250 and you get a lifetime warranty it’s a 4 piece rod and if you break the midsection or tip they will send you a new one for $60 if you break the butt section you will have to send it in and they will fix or replace it again for $60 but seriously I’ve abused the shit out of my Clearwater for several years and broke the butt section one time because I sat on it other than that it’s been an amazing rod for small creeks and rivers and I’ve caught 6-7 pound rainbows on it with ease and my favorite budget reel would be a orvis Clearwater as well

Don’t spend a lot on money on the reel save it for the rod .
@gonefishing3212 ай бұрын
In my opinion, if you are strictly fishing small water for trout, don’t spend more than 500 on the rod, but a good reel, (200-500) and call it a day. The benifit of those 1000 dollars rods really is only apparent A: Spey rods; B: big water where making long powerful cast is nessicery. Every rod I have ever used is super accurate at 40 feet and below. If you are gonna spend a lot of money on a rod, spend it on a euro rod. This is coming from someone who owns multiple rods that cost over 1.5k. Buy them if you appreciate the action and the craftsmanship, but they won’t be worth the money fishing ability wise if you fish water like hard man here.

@thenotsobaldeagle3242 ай бұрын
Once brown trout get over 12 inches in length, their diet consists of a little over 90 percent minnows and small fish. That’d explain why the undercut brown would continually go after a streamer but not a nymph

Depends on the waterway! Some browns do fight really hard, other's just try to sit on the bottom. Either way they're fun to catch! Thanks for watching
@tenkarapondfishing46112 ай бұрын
John, awesome brown at 4:00, but the way you grip your rod way up the cork, where the blank starts....makes me SO nervous. While it won't matter much with a 12" rainbow.....the sort of extreme stress you put on your rod to land that brown, with the high grip....is just asking for a fracture of the graphite sheets at the butt.....just saying.
@hardmanfishing2 ай бұрын
I do that because it's tough to hold that much pressure on the fish by just holding down at the reel... in fact it's nearly impossible. Especially if I want to put enough pressure on a fish to land it without fighting it for 30 minutes. Trust me, as someone who has landed a bunch of big fish by grabbing the upper end of the cork... it's fine. And if it's not you need a new rod company 😂 Something I should stop doing however is pulling on the blank above the cork. It's a bad habit I've gotten into when I'm trying to turn a fish's head. Although I've still never had a rod break from that type of thing.
