Aside from our feelings on the current state of our side can I just take a moment to thank you Dan as you’ve created this safe place for us to vent, communicate, digest, understand and for that I am so grateful. I always come to your videos as a source of either comfort or celebration as I really value your opinion, effort and content. Agree, coaches need to identify shifts in game and make proactive adjustments (personnel) opposed to reactive negative moves. Losing our three usual bail out targets up the wing (Harry, TDK & Blake) meant we really needed another strategy… whole team notably feelin 5 day break so why didn’t we deploy, Cerra, Elija & Kennedy in more midfield rotations? I could rant on… soz… As long as we learn from this one.

Love your commentary and like the new set up for stats, it is getting clearer to me. To me it seems a bit like Voss is not practising what he preaches. Whenever the team is in trouble he seems to go a bit into his shell with the decisions he makes. Does the team then follow this mentality? Why didn't Jack Martin play is he not fit? Why did Jaxon Binns not play for Blake Acres? I think Lewis Young played a serviceable game (which may get him a contract extension perhaps) however I would have played Marchbank if fit as he could also have gone forward as he is a true intercept player. As for next week with Collingwood I wouldn't care if Carlton didn't win one stoppage as long as Collingwood also didn't and limped off the ground at the end of the first quarter and said who the hell are we playing!

Nailed it here. I feel we stray over the game plan at times the 2nd we were shocking from stoppage but our turnover game and fwd half defence alleviated it majorly. Then 3rd he tries to stop the bleeding and the fwd half and turnover game stagnates. If our morals our pressure and contest then ignore the stoppage when you're turnover and fwd half is killing them.

Great video Dan. Totally agree with a lot of what you said in you video. Some reshuffling and position changes were mystifying. I was listening to SEN 1116 here in NZ this Arvo. They were reviewing and assessing the games. One of the presenters was mentioning that he wouldn't be surprised if we were in a hard training block at present to get us deep into finals fitness wise as you lose conditioning during the year he said. He also said if they weren't doing that then carlton are in trouble. What I observed and I even mentioned a couple of times in your watch along was those first two quarters were played at a really high pase and pressure.that combined with the 5 day break,I'm not surprised that they ran out of gas.they tried to rest third quarter and was game over from there. I think this week we will go back to what we do well. Correct selections.we should beat Collingwood.

Might also be a contributing factor of recent injuries like acres one? He was quite in favour of us being the side that has the game to beat Sydney.. I also think that players need to do more blocking/work off the ball, pit some bodywork on opposition players to create more space for our guys.

Voss always speaks of creating your story and we had this beautiful gritty story with amazing characters both lead and pivotal side characters flowing, having fun and being entertaining but he just kept editing and tinkering until these characters had no idea who they were anymore. We had hardworking grinders all of a sudden asked to do ballet, we had stars with the freedom to shine asked to fade into the background. I was positive all the way through the 8 game slump last year but I am so disillusioned now with the last four weeks I can’t muster any faith right now. We don’t have a brand or a story anymore, we have an over complicated pile of screwed up text. “Trust is like a piece of paper, once it's crumpled, it can't be perfect.” Start again Blues. Blank paper and honour these amazing players and using them properly.

Port were really impressive. 91 tackles is an absurd effort. In the other games across the last month it was our defense that was leaky, this game we really struggled offensively which was odd. We get some important troops back, get back to the G and win next 4.

Apart from the loss which should have questions asked (Cerra in backline and why didn’t they try kemp up in forward and move young back to counter esava) This was a VERY lucky round for Carlton. They could’ve dropped to 6th but in the end, they fell to 4th. They’ve got the players in the team, they need to re synch with themselves

This one just hurt man. I don't mind a loss and all the credit to Port for a great win and taking advantage of the moment. But when you're watching your team win and then barely able to score a single fucking goal in an entire half of footy it's dreadful. We have a good team, great personal and incredible individual players. And with the comp the way it is we needed to win out this season (and we still do) we have really let ourselves down and it is so difficult to watch, I hope we figure this out for the next 4 games. Go Blues.

Not ideal losing De Koning and Acres through injury and then McKay before the game and Cuningham in the first 15 minutes but probably the most disappointing performance of the year. There seems to be a real disconnect at the moment on all lines and several players severely out of form. I know we over analyse losses but we look extremely fragile in defence, slow and lethargic in the midfield and all over the place in attack. Two goals in three quarters of football under the roof is simply unacceptable. Our small forwards are a massive concern and our defenders either get too cute or panic under pressure. With a month to go lets hope we can get a solid four weeks under our belts and get some sort of momentum going into finals 👊

The wounds seem to open up quickly and fast, the shift to stem the bleeding from stoppage and clearance seems to have come from Geelong, we did that late, then earlier and earlier and now it was from 2 mins into 3rd we shifted from letting it be a problem but we transistioned too trying to kill the bleeding and not even have a scoring option

Felt like the coaches decided to close shop and defend in the 2nd half. They may have sensed we couldn't hold Port. Why would the coaches decide to have Charlie as the lone forward with no other KPF or a small as support crew. Why did the 2 KPFs play in the backline at times? Could we have been so fatigued from the 5 day turnaround, that we could only play a half of footy? Seems 5 days turnaround has had a negative impact on other teams, so may have been part of the reason. Love the boxing analogy. This loss has shown us we could slip 3 spots each week for next 3 rounds and miss out altogether. Its real. Hope this scares the boys into shape. No more 5 day breaks.

The coaches have meddled with team selection and player placement. The result is that we have lost our mojo and style of play . Like last years slump the players need to rectify our winter Blues .

Yeah.I am a Port man .On form Dixon probably shouldn't be playing but he is the most important player for us structurally.He is such a big man sides have to put a good player on him or he can still do damage like against Richmond when he kicked 4.He is playing like a Decoy really,cause of his size usually the best defender takes him and that allows other talls to get the 2nd or 3rd defender.We had Marshall and Finlayson missing so being able to throw Esava forward was a good move also which still left Georgiades to not get as much attention and he should have kicked 5 really he kicked 3.2 and missed 2 sitters....structure is very important

Ran out some gas and some troops but some bad coaching decisions. Young moved to a backline late in 3rd to sure up a backline that had only conceded 5 goals to that point. Stank of trying to save the game from miles out and then Port happily double teamed Charlie for the rest of the match . End result 6 goals to 0 from that point. Bizarre.

Yes, with the Young move down back, it was almost as if Voss was preparing for the Port surge in the second half. Instead, they should have left Young forward and push the boys to surge again in the 3rd quarter to get a bigger lead to cater for the eventual tired legs and final surge from Port.

For me it’s simple. Too many players in “survival” mode at the moment.. hoping they won’t get injured before the finals. Irony is we won’t be there if all they do is keep trying to survive. So back to basics. Forget all the bullshit stats and key indicators. Just play Voss football. Ballistic. Brutal. Uncompromising. In the face of the opposition very minute of the game. Focus on the next game, nothing more.

Correct Dean, I miss that rough energetic football. Nearly every time the opposition got the ball they had to try and fight off 3 Carlton players, which would be exhausting in itself.

We are too short forward and back. 2 weeks in a row the opposition has picked 3 KPDs and released one of them to their forward line to stretch our backline when Harry was in ruck for a chop out, or out injured. Comden last week kicked 3 and Esava kicked 2 this week. Gov and Kemp are not KPD's, but if midfield rolls up their sleeves and play Blue Collar footy, maybe the backline wouldn't be seeing so much ball. Risk free footy. A lack of confidence? Kemp hasn't learned much in the one week in the VFL.

We can come up with all the excuses but it comes down to desire, our opposition teams desire to win the contest/ball much more than us. Unless a miracle happens we are fucked, so disappointing. Someone a while ago wrote a comment on BA that "The trouble with Carlton is you don't know which team is going to turn up" These words are ringing in my ear. You would have to be an idiot to risk putting money on them and their performance.

@@PommyinOZ We can only judge by our form and unfortunately its not up to scratch. The problem with Carlton is they can be unbeatable on 'their' day but we just aren't seeing it. You would think that hanging onto at least second spot would be paramount but again we just aren't seeing it in our players, bar a few busting their guts.

pommy why did we change a winning formula? why did we change from what worked for 5 weeks to something that has never worked? for that 5 weeks we had a balanced side who consistently played together with no changes, the only changes that we made was pitto for tdk. i don't get why we added cerra and cottrell who they should of played 3 weeks of vfl. i put this one on the coaches, they are playing names rather than doing what best for the side. the coaches players are confused and we have to fix it quickly. we didn't go into the corridor once until the fourth, other than that we reverted to what killed us last year. the fact vossy seems ok with the midfield is a concern, why isn't their any accountability from anyone that our midfield has been shit for weeks. i didn't think the defense was bad it was good, but our midfield is the problem. its not good enough. go back to basics and what worked, what they are doing is not working.

The best change for me was the stoppage to a turnover side, being dangerous without the ball is the most important asset, for me it feels like we obsessed with being top 6 for all stat measurement! and it seems bizarre to me!

Totally agree, playing players that should not be in the side who would or are struggling in the seconds. Our defence was under the pump as they were constantly under attack, just on numbers some were going to get through

As much as I think the majority blame of the last four weeks is on Voss and the coaches, I still think he is the man we need. I don’t know about you but I have stuffed up in my job on several occasions but you apologise, learn and do better. Voss has been great for Carlton and I still think he’s the man for the job.

This year been top 2 for the whole year, choked multiple games and now we will be lucky to make the 8. Voss isn't good enough simple as that.

If we drop out of the eight and don’t make finals let’s discuss then. I think he has the knowledge and ability he has just needs to correct himself and the team.
