@@rayfieldlewis8780the 2019 GTS is a bit long in the tooth though. The gen 3 GTS is faster than the 4S, both 0-60 and top end. Personally I think the front of the EV macan looks fine but the back looks terrible and the side looks really dull. The black plastic wheel arches are especially nasty looking, they remind me of cars like mini’s. The other issue you need to consider is that a moderately specced 4S will be north of £100k, and you can get a better specced, faster, and more fun GTS for quite a lot less. I was really interested in the Macan EV, until I did the maths and then, for me at least, it didn’t add up. Last month I took delivery of a 2025MY Macan GTS, with £25k of options and it still worked out £15k less than a 4S with the same options, plus it will keep its value better ( look at the appalling residuals on the Taycan ) and will cost a fraction of the insurance. Then there’s the minor issue of actually charging it anywhere other than at home. There is a reason why Porsche have recently announced they will continue to make the ice car for the foreseeable future. Do yourself a favour and test drive a new GTS, with the new engine and new interior, back to back with an EV, unless you’ve decided you definitely want to go EV. If you have, then back-to-back a 4S and a Hyundai 5N. The 5N is faster, more fun, cheaper and the electronics will be more reliable.

The new one is so over-styled. It’s way more expensive way heavier, and with no ICE engine it’s not a true Porsche. Don’t believe me? Look at Taycan sales and atrocious resale values. Porsche should be worried.

Porsche did the EV Macan right; they made it a proper driver's EV SUV, still a proper Porsche. But I would still love it if they kept at least one petrol version, maybe V6 GTS. :) James, great video; keep it up!

If your just driving about here and there i'd go new Renault 5. It's cheap, looks far cooler and fun inside. Range isn't bad if you get the big battery. I'd then have my 981 for high days and holidays.

@@simont531 the Macan I’d try but the tycan offers nothing over a model s except faster charging, however to get that faster charging you need a charger than can supply it. The depreciation is at least better than a Panamera.

@@djgoode Drive a Taycan and a model S - there are light years between the driving experience, refinement, cabin quality etc. cars are not all about 0-60 times. The Taycan handles like a performance car - Tesla’s do not - but they are much better value. Taycans use conventional 2 pedal driving not 1 pedal like Tesla’s - completely different experience. Panameras depreciate slower than Taycans at present so I don’t know why you think it’s the other way round? Secondhand Taycans went from selling over list in 2022-2023 and today lose a lot of money vs new price in year 1.

So this is where we’re headed. Throttle pedal mapping is the point of difference between one vehicle powered by bags of wet chemicals, with another powered by the same bag of wet chemicals. Oh well, at least we can all remember when, as enthusiasts, our choice of car was based on the type of engine, its sound, its performance characteristics and its heritage. Porsche selling the petrol version alongside this thing is a smart move.

Committing so fully to EV when we see the debacle of the Taycan is really betting the farm for Porsche. The biggest letdown will be electrifying the Boxster/Cayman, as it will kill the purity of sound and light weight of that model.

I hope they don't lose the electric-only bet. But the "old" Tycan has lost huge value, E-Boxter has test problems and demand for the one-year-to-late-Macan is obviously already weak... I drove the Turbo and it was GREAT, but unfortunately so was the price of 167k€...

Obviously, the Taycan has been the butt of 'depreciation jokes' for years now - but, not necessarily for good reason... Appreciating that you're not UK-based.... but the following figures come from the UK's largest new & used car sales platform, Autotrader. On Autotrader, a brand new, unregistered, 421-mile range, FACELIFTED-MODEL Porsche Taycan RWD costs £84,250 after discounts. The cheapest, 3 year old, 2022 plate, 314-mile range, ‘OLD-SPEC’ model with 36,000 miles is selling at £44,940 = 53% resale value. Compare that to, for example, the BMW 840i M-Sport Gran Coupe - which costs, brand new, unregistered, £64,995 after discounts. The cheapest, 3 year old, 2022 plate used model with 22,000 miles is selling at £38,600 = 59% resale value, so only a 6% difference... which, considering the incredible upgrade the new Taycan is over the old model in terms of power and range, a 6% difference, in my mind, is the equivalent of 'choosing purple paint over a silver'...

I believe the ICE versions are discontinued in the EU due to Porsche not feeling they would be able to (or want to spend the money on) meeting new regulations. Those regs will be coming to the UK in the next couple of years ? So a practicality thing rather than a lack of confidence in the platform thing. Meanwhile the Porsche and Piech families have taken huge annual dividends from VW for years, the Northvolt factory has gone bust and VW have just agreed to lay of 35k workers between now and 2030. Enjoy your money Wolfgang.

Whatever to all the patrol heads and critics without qualification. Some of you don’t even know what you are talking about. If you don’t criticize, you are not considered to be a proper reviewer or expert. Most likely critics here are neither! This car is an electric crossover, it’s not designed to be a Carrera 911 GT on steroid but for what it’s worth there isn’t a single electric or non electric suv-crossover like this in the world. I don’t think many drivers will be taking the Macan Turbo to Nuremberger ring 🚀

What a disgrace. I’m definitely keeping my ‘22 GTS petrol. They ruined the looks, especially that rear end that reminds me of a Prius. Also, it’s heavier than previous gen and not to mention of a EV resale value. Easy pass.

Sorry to break it to you, pal, but the Macan has always been a disgrace. The rear of the '22 model looked like an '05 SEAT (Leon Gen. II, to be precise), hardly better than a Prius. But then again, it's a "sporty SUV", meaning ugliness comes with the territory.

All the comments about never buying a EV are from people who will never buy a new car anyway, these aren’t directed at you because you aren’t the demographic to buy one irrespective of if it’s a EV or ICE because you are to poor to buy either anyway. Porsche going in the EV direction is absolutely the correct thing to do if you want to sell anything other than a petrol engine 911 in 10 years time, and for now Porsche should absolutely stick with a petrol engine 911, no EV no Hybrid just pure internal combustion…..BUT with a view to go full EV with the 911 in the not to distant future.

@ Honestly you do not represent the vast majority of vehicle owners. The vast majority just want a good looking vehicle that is cheap to maintain and requires less maintenance, something that EVs excel at. If you are buying a Porsche you are buying into a brand, not internal combustion engines. There’s always going to be someone who is a die hard internal combustion engine lover for no other reason than they hate EVs for no particular reasons, I love internal combustion and as a mechanic for over 21 years I’ve had a fair few in pieces but the fact remains that electric vehicles excel in every aspect compared to internal combustion. Manufacturers spend millions alone on making internal combustion engines as quiet and smooth as possible, yet a EV has those qualities as standard.

To agree with @davidowen2859 I have just bought a brand new Macan GTS, coming from a brand new Macan S, so your characterisation isn’t correct. Porsche are making EV;s because they are being forced into it by government legislation, and for no other reason. It doesn’t take a lot of research to see how badly EV’s are selling at the moment and how some major manufacturers are going to the wall over EV’s. All the Porsche dealers I spoke to, including Porsche UK HQ in Reading all said that take-up of the Macan EV had been poor. This is why they recently back-tracked on production of the ICE Macan, now stating it will be produced “for the foreseeable future”, when the had originally marked its end for end of 2023. People who buy new cars are reluctant to spend such high premiums to support manufacturers. An electric Vauxhall Astra is around £40k for heavens sake!! Although you can pick up a 6 month old Porsche Taycan for £5 and a Freddo. So your statements are just plane wrong. Some people will want EV’s and some people wont, and both side need to accept that. Its the same reason some people want to buy Porsches’ and some want to buy Vauxhalls. Some people are interested in what they drive, and others just need transport, and that’s totally fine.

It’s an impartial review as always. We did list a few problems with the car, but otherwise it is just very good. Weight is a factor, but it’s not reason enough to criticise the car.

Why would I buy this EV while I can buy so many Chinese offerings from Xiaomi, Zeekr , XPeng , BYD etc. with similar performance , more standard equipment , luxury , cameras , LiDAR, self parking/exit, 15 spkr system , wireless phone charging , mobile connectivity, Napa leather , glass roof , etc for 35-55k all in.

this is the problem. EV’s have no personality from the engine, because they are all the same just with different hp. So this means choice based on extras, fit, finish and price is far more important. So you are totally right, why buy this over a Chinese car that’s half the price, just as fast and, more worryingly, just as well put together? Its a lot of money for a badge. When i have no choice I’ll be looking at something like the 5N as its faster, more fun and almost half the price of a Macan Turbo ( once you’ve added a couple of options, like a rear wiper ….. )

@ Well I wish you get to see the Xiaomi SU7 Max US41k, 670hp , 0-100kmh in 2.78 sec. has all the luxury , safety, technology, options as std. , it’s a huge hit in China and in June the SUV version is being rolled out. That’s a lot of EV and performance for the price. Oh it also has Brembo brakes.

To say that exclusive high performance 911s wouldn't happen without the SUVs is total lies. They'd still exist but be slightly more expensive. The SUVs are a result of corporate greed for increased profits, nothing more.

Porsche was literally headed for bankruptcy before the Cheyenne and Macan made the company profitable again. You may not like that history but that doesn’t make it “total lies.”

@@OptimumSlinky actually it does. The SUVs were introduced in 2002 when the company announced a new profit stream. Bankruptcy was never a reality, but the lie was used to justify the new Cayenne. The then CEO (or CFO, I forget which) was later prosecuted for fraud.
