Crying about bad Seat interior means you never sat in any Seat over the last 5-7 years. Every generation they go through they take huge leaps & bounds in terms of the overall price to performance. I had the previous Ibiza and switched to a Leon FR a few months back, i'm hooked! Never once did it feel like a cheap ass car with bad build quality. Golf has been so dull in styling for a few generations too...

Fantastic review. Not boring like all the other reviews made on race tracks. Before this review (and 2-3 other reviews) i was close to order a BMW M140iX and also was intensively thinking about the new Golf R 7.5. Now I ordered a Cupra300 DSG in Mystery Blue! :-)

I drove both and i loved the agility of the Cupra, the bigger difference between comfort and sportmode, comes with cruise control and all of that for 12k€ less. For me the Cupra is the better allrounder, the BMW is a crazy beast on the straight line with an awesome sound. But I have to drive a lot in the city and it was really exhausting to drive this car at low speeds. :-)

Sorry to say but I think there are hardly any hot hatches with included navi. The Golf 7 R doesn't even have the full link as standard. Plus that paying for navi is just stupid in 2017. You have Google Maps which beats any navigation system.

LoveGod16 In the U.K. now, the Golf 7.5R has Navi and App Connect (full link) as standard. My 7R came with Nav as standard but I paid about £200 for App Connect. I agree with you - Google Maps is far more advanced and better than built-in Nav (which always gives me wrong routes).

Würdest du heute zu einem gebrauchten 135xi bzw 235xi (ggf auch S3) oder einem neuen Cupra 300 greifen? Preislich gibt sich das wenig :)

KpunktS Hmm.. also das kommt ein wenig auf die Nutzung an. Ich habe während des Tests festgestellt, dass er im Fond um einiges geräumiger ist als der 1er - da ich ja selbst einen fahre. Aber mal ehrlich: einer der besten 6 Zylinder den es gibt - gegen 2L 4 Zylinder? Da kenne ich keinen, der darüber nachdenken würde :-) der 6 Zylinder ist kraftvoller und der Klang und die Kultur sind sehr spürbar anders. Aber die Beschleunigung von 100-200 ist beim m135i mit Allrad nicht besser. Das Gewicht... Dennoch kraftvoller und von Unterum ein riesen Unterschied. Speziell bei Nässe. Also wenn du auf etwas Platz verzichten kannst - immer der 35i - ob als Allrad oder Heck.. Bessere Wertstabilität und auch bessere Verarbeitung..

Nice review, a bit long but ok. Well, I must say, i would go and look for a cupra. But the 308 Gti impresses me to. It's just a 1.6 with 270 bhp. So less taxes in Belgium. But I am not sure if the 308 can have the same quality as a leon Cupra. And they both offer nice space. Eather way, I am checking a lot of cars because in the end of this year we will need to decide wich one to buy. So pretty handy this car review ;o)

Very good review, i'm waiting for my red desiree ST, I equipped it with DSG backets and roof- for the navigation system I choosed the full link system and will use my phone as if was the navigation (in the dash and all other features) as I understood. defintely can't wait for it!

Great in-depth review, I'm super close to just going out and buying one of these so thanks for doing the vid! TBH the m140i is probably my favourite hot hatch because of that 3L engine but here in Mexico at least it's another 50% more expensive than the cupra. The cupra is a real sleeper hot hatch and for me the fwd drive isn't a big disadvantage - I want the power when I'm overtaking or hammering a back road but squeeling off at the lights is just stupid. Also, the interior plastics may not be up to Golf, Audi or BMW standards but I like the overall sporty design and screen placement in the dash. My biggest concern is having door panel and dash rattles - can anyone confirm whether they've sorted these issues since the 280/290 models?

And if you invest roughly 2-3k eur you will have stage 2 this car and then you are faster then, PORSCHE 4S, CLA 45AMG, TESLA, 380hp STI IMPREZZA etc..... rolling start :) Definitely best money/performance purchase.

You can connect the iPhone with the car and than change the audio mode in the iPhone to bluetooth audio and hear the navigation instructions via the radio. It stops the music if the next instruction comes from the navigation. Just a cold comfort but better than nothing.

Was Preise angeht bekommt man auf den Leon ca. 28 % Rabbat auf den 140i 22 %. In meiner Konfiguration mit den Rabbaten kostet der Leon 32k der 140i ca. 39k. Der Leon sollte besser auf dem track sein dem 140i fehlt einfach ein Sperrdifferential. kostet leider ca. 2600 Euro extra. Der Leon hat mit DSG auch einen Stau Assistenten bei 140i gibt es leider nicht mal für extra Geld. Es wäre interessant einen längsdynamikvergleich vs 135i /140i zu sehen. Ich glaub ab 100 km/h sollte da keinen grossen Unterschied geben. Noch mal Danke fürs Video!

Dima Pivovar hi nochmal :-) ja der Stau Assi beim bmw geht angeblich nicht, weil er den Platz des Sensors für Kühlung braucht. hab ja selbst den m135i und das gab's nicht zum dazu bestellen. Und längsdynamisch habe ich schon meinen m135i xdrive mit m140i verglichen. Ich brauchte 385ps um mit dem Heckantrieb des m140i mithalten zu können bzw. um einen kleinen Tacken schneller sein zu können. Aber Heck gegen Heck oder xdrive gegen xdrive mit Serienleistung wären es bei 200km/h denke ich 2 Wagenlängen zugunsten des 40i

Chris, mir gings um den Vergleich zwischen dem Cupra 300 und einem 135/140i vorerst nur längsdynamisch ab 100 km/h. Das Video mit dem 135i gegen 140i habe ich schon gesehen, war sehr interessant. Leider hat kein bmw performance oder echtes M-Model einen Stau Assistenten. Bei Audi und Mercedes klappt es, bei BMW leider nicht...

Why would one use offline navigation without traffic these days is what I would not understand. Is this a case? Can Full link connect to Google Maps and/or Waze?

Picked my Cupra up last week, manual with no extra features. I did get navigation as standard and yes you can use Google maps and various other apps with an Android phone. I believe your Android has to be version 5 or higher to be compatible with the link.

Chris, schwanke gerade zwischen SEAT CUPRA 300 und dem BMW M140i. Mit Rabatt und allem was geht komme ich auf 32k für den Cupra. Den BMW M 140i bekommt man in einer guten Ausstattung für 41-42k natürlich auch mit Rabbat ca. 22%. Ist es 9 -10k Euro mehr Wert?

Lieber Dima! Also wenn du es dir leisten kannst - immer den m140i. Überleg da keine Sekunde. Es liegen Welten zwischen den Motoren. Darüber hinaus geht der m140i schon merklich besser. Die Automatik, die Interieur Qualität und auch eleganter ist der BMW. Es ja dennoch ein BMW. Wenn man sich aber den BMW nicht leisten kann, ist der Seat eine perfekte Alternative!

My biggest mistake was selling the golf 6 R. For me 6k is easily worth for the golf R 1. Plastic quality in the cupra is not good as the golf R. It can easily scratch especially in the back of the seats you will notice this without an effort. 2. Cupra is no fun. In the first gears it spins so crazy that you can not make it go. Even in the perfect tarmac it will spin and spin. Launch control will make it worse. In my book there is no point in buying a car more than 200 bhp fwd. 3. It won't make you feel as confident as a R when you are cornering at high speeds. LSD will help but not be the same. 4. At 1000 kilometers the door trim noises will begin and you will have to fix it. 5. Cupra has not got the looks and it is indistinguishable for an fr in many ways and this is another let down. 6. Instead of buying this I'd take the type-r if I really wanted the fwd experience or else save them money for a golf 7 R.

I've driven SEAT company cars, like the Cupra, good car to drive, but wouldn't buy it just to avoid filling their filthy pockets with my hard-earned cash. They should all go back to VW from where they come from.
