@@J-Hue Except against Serbia, USA had their biggest deficit by the end of the 3rd quarter. So my recommendation would still be perfect for what had actually happened. Only difference, they could went to Tatum & Haliburton to see if either of them had a hot hand. They definitely could have had a bigger rotation all the other games though. Thank you! Tatum’s previous accolades mean nothing if he can’t go out on the court, today, and be efficient. He has been inefficient for months now, not a few games like Curry or Embiid. It’s telling that he’s the face of his Celtics team and neither won ECF MVP nor NBA Finals MVP. He still hasn’t totally dispelled the reputation of him being a guy who shrinks when the lights get too bright (aka, not a clutch player). I truly don’t think his DNPs were personal and that this topic is being blown way out of proportion. I do hope whatever is going on with him resolves itself because, despite that, he’s still a talented player.

Exactly. Hes also primarily an iso player and a solid rebounder but not a better rebounder than Bam, AD, Embid..Jrue Holiday has more IQ, a little better defensively and Tatum ain’t grabbing minutes over Bron and KD. Tatum needs to catch rhythm, he’s not as pure of a scorer like Booker or Curry..doesn’t slash or move without the ball. He never got in and made immediate impact like Anthony Edward’s or even Derrick White!

The team was also selected in April and they didn't see Tatum until July so the coaches probably expected something different (a player more confidence in his shot) so I think Melo is speaking from a players perspective and not an objective one. The timeline is too compressed to think they could pull off this avengers 3 week prep thing and still win gold every time. Single game elimination system means any team with chemistry that can get hot can upset in the knockout rounds with NBA level talent.

@@marcc.5535Steph couldn't play himself out of the rotation cause Steph is most dangerous without the ball so the attention he gets off ball gives everyone else space and half the time can be a decoy getting double teams while only shooting 6 shoots all game. Tatum needs the ball to be most effective so when he is on the court with KD and Bron and Steph he is at best the 4th option to getting the ball and initiating plays. There were times when Steph was off the floor and it became this your turn my turn game and Kerr would keep him in so the ball moves around cause in FIBA you have to put the other team in rotation otherwise they just sit in, no 3 seconds, no goal tending basically just force you guys to shoot iso off the bounce shots which are the most inefficient

Thanks to Curry for carrying them through those last 2 critical games because we all saw how Lebron was turning the ball over and disappearing in the 4th quarter. I think it's some behind the scene stuff that the public does not know. I'm thinking Tatum snapped on somebody on the coaching staff and they disciplined him for it. Shouldn't it be considered best practices though that Team USA have Tatum or someone of his caliber in reserve? Example, in 2019 FIBA World Cup, Tatum rolled his ankle and missed the rest of the tournament. So if KD or Booker for example ended up injured, the US would've had Tatum and not had a gap in talent. The depth is what got USA's momentum to begin with in the Paris olympics

Carmelo was just chucking under Lebron 's protection. I just watched both finals against Spain. My man is useless in the clutch. Kept missing 3s. Then coach K pulled him out. It's like Melo believes this shit, believes in his own legend. He is NOT all that. Cp3 same shit although he was a bit more useful in that 2012 game. But my guys are choking left and right. Mello especially. In his mind he won those olympic games, rained 3s, buried Spain. In reality he was a liability and Kobe in 08 and KD in 12 saved their ass

Let’s be honest, Tatum’s game is not that impressive. It’s a bunch of contested 3 pointers or some layups. There’s a reason why JB was the finals MVP and Eastern Conference MVP. Way better offensive game compared to JT and he plays lockdown D.

I have to wonder if this was a MONEY thing. I think the owners protected their investment. Tatum is too highly positioned in the league for that decision to be left to just a coach. Steph, LeBron and KD careers are sunsetting. The NBA has always depended on its stars to carry the entire league. Tatum is worth BILLIONS to the future of the NBA. The physicality of the international teams COULD have put the long term NBA profits at risk.

Tatum did not play well in his minutes. He was inefficient. He did not have any confidence. And was not playing any lockdown defense to deserve a spot just for defending. Come on, Melo, communication, really! Yo Tatum, there are some games you won't see the floor. The only person who would have been ok with that conversation was Haliburton. Melo forgot when they told him he was not stating. It is just like when a woman says, "You should have told me." There is no way you tell Melo, Tatum that they are not starting. It is better to chalk it up to the flow of the game. Just like they told Iverson, O.J. Mayo is starting. What I do believe but can't say for sure the benching may have to with Brown. Someone will leak it in the future.
