Melo was honest enough to admit that he's a rhythm scorer. He needs the touches and the shots to really contribute. What was expected of him in Houston was probably the hardest adjustment he had to make. He wasn't even given the chance to adjust and was given only 10 games. That's rough.

Houston was the wrong situation for someone like Melo. You’re playing with two guys that dominate the ball (Harden & CP), which means fewer shot attempts. The same can be said for OKC, with players like Russell and PG. Melo is nice and all, but he needed the perfect situation to flourish like Portland. I’m glad he found it.
@chengsaeteurn54544 жыл бұрын
But Lillard and McCollum is ball dominant too tho,, wth
@brothaclutch9844 жыл бұрын
They are both ball dominate, but Dame and CJ are also capable of deferring as well. It was evident when we went to the WCF last year, Dame had himself a series the first round and when he went cold during the Nuggets series CJ took over and balled out. Russ don’t defer like that, and PG does it too much sometimes. And when we’re talking Houston, there wasn’t enough ball for Melo to get a shot in edge wise. Harden had the ball so much that even CP3 wasn’t feeling he was getting enough touches. While I was nervous about Melo in Portland at first, it ended up working about best for them all because they needed another scorer to take over when they were cold. Unfortunately that means that there wasnt much defense being played either
@atifking87314 жыл бұрын
@@chengsaeteurn5454 The difference is Dame and more so Lillard are players that like to get everyone involved at all times.. They will take over if they feel they can get easy buckets but they will get everyone involved no matter what.

@Goated Man The knock on Melo is that he plays too much iso ball. The same can be said for James Harden and Kyrie Irving they need the ball.

Melo is still balling ! He needs to be a number 1 or 2 option! He just needs the opportunity

I feel Melo on knowing his lane and strengths. But there’s a point where you have to adapt. That seems to be his biggest weakness.

Should have asked about Melo's take/how he felt on the whole NY+D'Antoni+Linsanity situation.

Knowing how soft Dantoni is mentally he probably saw Melo asking to know his role as starting “conflict” and being “difficult” smh

As a life Knicks fan, the narrative about Melo in NYK has always frustrated me. He was on a team with zero PG depth/talent. The coaches were useless, and had no offensive systems in place, so it was iso play, throw the ball to melo and hope gameplans. Exception was the 2012 season with j kidd and all the other vets (who essentially coached themselves), which he was the nba scoring leader and knicks were 2nd in conference. This was the reason he always excelled in olympic games, he needed an actual educated playmaker to read when he was best to utilise
@andreidinu73164 жыл бұрын
Loved that Denver team, but they were 1st round exit every season with ALL that talent, until Billups came. As he said, that Meló was happier if he scored 40 in a loss, rather than scoring less but winning. Let's be honest, Melo could have received 2 years notice, he'd never be ready to come off the bench. He needed that low point, breaking moment to accept it.
@123alexer4 жыл бұрын
yet he started in portland perfectly fine as a 36 year old still being productive...proved he never really needed to come off the bench, simply needed a role told ahead of time
@andreidinu73164 жыл бұрын
@@123alexer that's not the point discussed in the video, nor by me. He is the one making an emphasis on his willingness to come off the bench, and I am commenting on that. The point in discussion is his mindset and willingness to sacrifice for the good of the team. In Portland he had a team with injuries in need of a player, with plenty of minutes and no challenge on his position. With his talent, he'd easily average what he did (15 PPG), but anyone would score the same as there are more opportunities with less scorers available, I mean Ariza averaged 11 PPG. Put him on a team with 3 people contending for minutes and another person starting and then see if he's actually happy about the bench role and if he's as effective.

@@MW_3 Melo is my favorite player but you're tripping if you think Manu wasn't a first option. He was good enough to be a first option on many teams and should've won Finals MVP one year but like Curry he had 1 bad game that dropped his averages right below Duncan. In the wins he was their best player that's why SAS fans love him. I'm sure Melo could've done great things if he had a good team but unfortunately he never really had a good team let alone one superstar beside him in his prime. But in terms of comparing I'm not going to say one is better than the other, gotta give Manu his respect considering he has a couple rings and was the reason for that.
