Carmen Basilio - Was an Italian-American professional boxer who was the world champion in both the Welterweight and Middleweight divisions, he is also famous for defeating the great Sugar Ray Robinson to take the Middleweight title. An iron chinned pressure fighter, Carmen was not known as a power puncher, but was an effective combination puncher and had great stamina, so he wore many of his opponents down as the fight went on with vicious attacks to the head and body.

He was underrated as a welterweight because he was more known for his middleweight campaign... especially with his 2 fights series against Sugar Ray Robinson and Gene Fullmer.

Always felt that Basilio had better defense than he was credited for. Found the 1st Robinson fight IN ITS ENTIRETY and it was definitely on display in that fight.

corytclark I totally agree on Basilio being underrated defensively. Same can be said for Lamotta and Marciano too. There's sometimes a bit of a misconception in boxing that come foreword fighter's are not good defensively.

He is an underrated boxer because of his loss to the great Sugar Ray Robinson. Anybody who went up against him was automatically overlooked/downplayed. But he was a great fighter in his own way, he has a win over SRR, and the title was on the line too.

Such a great video mate, it really puts a new slant (for some folks) on a fighter most think was just a come-straight-ahead brawler. One of my all time favorites and a gentleman to boot. A request for you: Could you possibly do a Timothy Bradley Defense video? There is very little out there on him and he is a man with man of the same qualities as the great Basilio. Respect as always and please keep up the great work.
