I RARELY back a game that is an initial release. I mostly back stuff that has been tested and proven great. Then, when they come out with a 2nd edition or an expansion and you can pledge for the base game as well, I pull the trigger. This is an exception to that rule. I was intrigued by the look and explanation of the game so when I saw that you could test it out on BGA I tried it, and loved it. Backed it because of that play. I’m 95% sure I wouldn’t have if I was not able to try it out. More developer should do this! 👍🏽😃 Or perhaps not... I might end up broke! 😬😂😂😂😅😝

Leder Games does this too. It shows a lot of faith in your product to let the public get their hands on it that early.

I agree that the donations mechanism is a lot of fun. It reminds me of Navegador and Concordia, where you compete with other players to increase the value of certain end game goals. I do wish Carnegie had more action types that were less interrelated. At first it looks like a game where you might build up a specialized engine, getting a lot of one type of department and strategizing how to get that activated most often. But I have found that all four actions are absolute musts, so there is very little of the Roll For the Galaxy or San Juan vibe of trying to outguess your opponents. The four actions get selected about equally, and there is rarely a time when you are disappointed by an opponent’s choice. (Usually you are more disappointed by the side effect of the action - a donation when you have no money, or activating an income area where you have no workers.)

I really LOVE Carnegie ! So many different strategies. I really like the Timeline idea... You can plan ahead when certain aereas will benefit income ! Or planning to have your donationmoney ready...I like that this is different in every game ! Variable Timelines every time. I also like the interaction of taking actions.... Taking actions you benefit the most from and some players perhaps not.... I like how all the mechanics flow into eachother.... I also like that you certainly have to watch others.... WHat actions will they be probably taken...can you "surf"on these actions/predict them.... So many things to like....

I backed Carnegie while playing it on BGA several weeks ago. It's a very well-designed game (I'm a huge fan of Troyes!) and looks beautiful. My favorite part are the project tabs which provide different rewards yielded during a pay segment

I thought the game looked and sounded great, particularly liked the philanthropic aspect to it. Backed it. Haven’t played it in BGA but may well do to try and get a head start on learning rules. Did you back it Jamey?

I am just wondering why the 'rooms' in the building are not just building types with upgrades. It seems a bit disconnected to the map with buildings across the States. I would have basic buildings, upgraded ones and then advanced ones rather than rooms. The rooms thing strikes me of Grand Austria Hotel.

I think because the buildings you actually build ("projects" as the game calls them) on the map itself are not correlated to the departments that you build in your office building. I get that you are saying that should be the case, but I think gathering income from your far away businesses and actually operating one office building (taking actions) makes a bit more sense than operating factories etc. across the whole country.

I think it's a fun game, but my friends felt it was super slow and boring (which I disagree) - I mean what do you expect, it has a complex structure to it (which isn't difficult at all).

You would think that the people producing the Kickstarter would have the decency to check how Andrew Carnegie's name is pronounced. At least they posted an update commenting on that.

This looks a lot like Puerto Rico, at least mechanically.

Carnegie or Carn-ney-gey. Apparently, there are two ways to pronounce it.
