I usually can judge a person who claims there are film buffs, by asking them what is their favorite Thelma Ritter role...if they don;t know who she is, I don't bother with them.

This film was supposed to be the inspiration for one of Tom Waits' tunes, "Potter's Field," on his 1977 Foreign Affairs album, in which most songs sound "Noir."

This movie was remade in 1967 and set in South Africa. It starred Jacqueline Bisset and Claire Trevor. I'll get the title eventually. Also, the ONLY time I've seen Richard Kiley in a bad-guy role.

This story is not only filled with holes, none of the characters are likable and the circumstances are beyond absurd. But Thelma Rittter is good and Jean Peters is hot.

one of the only Noir films I've seen were the criminal/anti-hero not only lives Scott-free at the end...he gets the girl and snubs the angry cop

Brilliant, but I have one objection. This was not the First time Fuller cast a big star. He also cast Vincent Price in his "noir" Western, The Baron Of Arizona.

I honestly think Jean Peters being casted on the role of "Caty" was a good choice, definitely better than Monroe. And Selma Ritter was simply the standout of the movie 👏🏾
