Oh... another of my children... I built-out, delivered each of the 8 Fantasy-Class from Helsinki’s MASA-YARD. Seeing the green corrugated steel takes me back to the 90’s. I was there. I walked them as they were being built. Sailed them across thru the Baltic. Down the North Sea into the Channel. Always a stop in Brixham. For wine and an exchange of personnel. Then across the North Atlantic to towards the USA. NY, Philly, Boston, Norfolk, Miami... etc. It kinda hurts. I know the steel is extremely valuable. But still............. my personal children.

These ships were scrapped before their time but cruising is a dead industry right now. In better times they usually had to tow the junkers to the scrapyard because they were inoperable. But if you notice all these Fantasy class ships came in under their own power. These ships probably had at least ten years left in them. But economics is a bitch and the ships are just another causality of Covid.

i sailed on this for my honeymoon in Nov.2005, we stayed in V-17 which is visible in this video in the beginning. It was a nice ship, the decor was insanely tacky (like others in the Carnival fleet) and the cruise was a good time. We've done 5 now on Carnival and 1 Disney. (imagination, glory, miracle, splendor, valor)

Yeah it's sad and the ships that got scraped weren't scrapped because they were bad but because it was cheaper to scrap than to park and maintain which both cost a lot. They'd all still be cruising to this day at the very least on another cruise line. No one was willing to buy ships they couldn't run and also had to pay millions to dock and keep maintenance on during then.

The Elation & Paradise were the last 2 FA-Class Vessels. Both were also "azipod" propulsion >>> basically an 'outboard' electric motor pod that would pull the ship. Uses a lot less fuel, weighs less and opens up much usable space in the lower decks of the ship(s). Also eliminates the need for stern thrusters.

My wife and I were on the last cruise cruise of this beautiful ship. March 12th - 15th out of Long Beach, CA. Benjamin was the Cruse Director. Wonderful design with all of social areas located together. The lack of balconies did her in, but still great for short 3/4 day cruises. She’ll be missed. BTW we has some luck at the casino that cruise and probably hit the last jackpot as well. Fond farewell .....

Because ships deteriorate extremely quickly without constant care becoming death traps, we know how quickly things deteriorate when a ship is stranded, painting alone is a constant process. Carnival already use their ships for disaster relief.
