I like how you explain the soil mix for pings! So much conflicting information out there. Worth purchasing yours vs others.

Wanted to say I love your videos so much. I just received my first bags of carnivorous plant soil and the crushed glass topper/amendment. I absolutely love the crushed glass on top of my ping bowls.

I use a dehumidifier in my garage set to 35% to dry my pumice, perlite and sand. Seems to work well, thanks for sharing your mix the glass is interesting. I don't typically rinse my peat and may have to try that.

Very informative! Thank you for the video. I wanted to buy the soil, but shipping cost was too high for me. Maybe in the future.

As far as drying it out, you might want to try using some high quality heating mats. Put one on the bottom of the container, 1 in the middle of the dirt and probably 1 on top.
@CarnivorousPlantsHubАй бұрын
Hey, that's a super good idea! I'm definitely going to try that!!
@MrSonoruАй бұрын
For drying, a heating mat should help. However, if you're drying it out outdoors while it's still warm, perhaps spread the mix on a black surface? Solar food dryer also popped into my head just now, but I wonder how effective that would be
@CarnivorousPlantsHubАй бұрын
Interesting, I'll have to look into that!

Hey man, I’ve seen a good bit of your Venus fly trap videos. I wanted to ask you how’s your Venus fly trap nursery dream coming along? Have you succeeded at all?
@CarnivorousPlantsHubАй бұрын
It's been slow! I'm now selling substrate and hope to start selling pings soon. It's moving along, slowly, but definitely moving! Thank you for supporting my channel and for checking in!

@@CarnivorousPlantsHub yeah man no problem. I bought a dormant Venus flytrap seedling from Lowe’s around 6 months ago but that thing ain’t ever grow. However, today I bought an already grown but still young Venus fly trap as well as a pitcher plant from Lowe’s. I have the both of them sitting outside in my screen porch with plenty of sunlight. I also have them sitting in their own tray, but since I don’t have any distilled water at hand, I had to resort to a fresh rain puddle from a short rainstorm a few hours ago. Ik it’s not ideal but it’s the best I can do as of rn. Also, I plan on repotting them tomorrow into some orchid moss. I have some pretty limited resources but orchid moss will still work fine (thanks to one of your videos I know this information). Another thing, I tried to feed my fly trap an earwig but it didn’t ever close even though I made sure it touched the trigger hairs multiple times. I looked it up and apparently most store bought traps have already resorted to photosynthesis as a main energy source, so they won’t clamp down on bugs. It said that once new traps have grown then it will return back to normal. I ended up just taking the earwig and let him go for a slide down the pitcher plant where he will take a nice long spicy nap.

How much of your soil is needed to fill one of your pots for the vft/sarracenia and ping pots? Also I assume done your winding it it’s good to go once purchased and we can plant straight away with no rinsing?
@CarnivorousPlantsHub6 күн бұрын
A 2 quart bag fills 1 of the planters. The kit with a 2 quart bag and 1 planter will be enough to fill it. I always pack in more than 2 quarts to make sure you have enough to fill that planer with a little left over. And yes, it's all pre rinsed, when you get it, it's ready to go.
@lingualunatic6 күн бұрын
@@CarnivorousPlantsHubawesome! And for the vft doing which size fills the pot you sell?
@CarnivorousPlantsHub6 күн бұрын
Oh I'm sorry, I didn't see you asked about pings. Too. My answe above was for venus flytraps substrate and the bigger planter. For the ping soil, a 1 quart bag fill the ping planter and then some.

Can you use river water for pitcher plants?
@CarnivorousPlantsHubАй бұрын
Just depends. Everywhere has different levels of minerals and nutrients in the ground. You'd have to test with a TDS meter to know for sure.
@markv7390Ай бұрын
Where do you buy crushed glass?
@CarnivorousPlantsHubАй бұрын
I source it from a sand blasting company. It's kind of expensive to ship and hard to find.

Can I make a container garden with pinguicula moctezumae and Venus fly trap? I was thinking about putting the pinguiculas on rocks and sphagnum moss. Should I just leave the Venus fly trap in its own container? Also I noticed some mold and saw a tiny white bug in my Venus plant container. Should I be worried? I may be watering it too much
@CarnivorousPlantsHubАй бұрын
I would not combine a flytrap with a ping. The ping requires a lot less light. The flytrap really should he outside in full sun. Also, the flytrap requires a winter dormancy, the ping does not. Flytraps are temperate and pings are tropical. They just have very different care requirements and should probably be grown separately.
