Gotham’a channel is nothing but 50,000 words per second with no real instruction. His channel is basically useless for beginners/intermediates. And his book is terrible.

This was fantastic content. I have Grandmaster Secrets: the Caro Kann from 2009, great to see some updated theory for the main line advance variation, most recent books cover 3.c5

All of these lines are incredibly exciting and fun!! The subtle move orders are also quite critical and important. Didn't realize the Caro-Kann was so dynamic yet also quite sound. Alireza has really shown a lot of promising ideas from the Caro-Kann over the years. Do you still believe c5 on move 3 is inferior to Bf5? A little over 36 hours ago Daniel Naroditsky and Jovanka Houska ( doing commentary for the Tata Steel tournament) discussed the move 3.c5 and how it is the main top Grandmaster move these days. Thanks so much for sharing. Keep up the amazing work! Gratitude.

Hi Alex, thank you so much for sharing this super instructive video..i have a question at 13:27 you mentioned white blocking the check with either pawn to c3 or knight to d2 (blocking the bishop…why not knight to c 3 or what i would probably do block with the bishop on d2 (i have to say i’m very low rated player 😊 so my suggestions might be ridiculous)
@namk98tr39
@namk98tr39 Жыл бұрын
Because after Nc3 the blacks plan is to play e6 and c5 and white usually protects the pawn chain with c3 and Nc3 blocks that move and there is not an alternative like for white to prevent so if Nc3 is played the black has a big juicy centre

@@namk98tr39 what if blocking with bishop
@namk98tr39
@namk98tr39 Жыл бұрын
@@sangatitv after blocking the check with bishop thats a completely different plan but the thing is the pawn in d4 is not going to be as well protected compare to c3 and after Qb6 now you have to protect the b2 and u can protect with your bishop but in that case you just waste a move but if b3 is played you have a slight worse structure in the queens side and d4 pawn is weaker

@@hplovecraftmacncheese I'm saying that g4 in the French allows for other plans, so it's a French with g4 which is very different from a French without g4. Let me rephrase, it won't play like a typical French once g4 is included
