Agreed...pinning pieces, maintaining the tension. Blundering pieces like crazy though. That will improve with time. My theory is all the chess content available these days (like this channel for instance) is causing elo ratings to become inflated (or deflated??) i.e. a 1000 rated player today would have been like, 1500 ten years ago, etc

I dropped to 600 when I first started playing. Decided to learn a couple of openings: chose 1.d4 as white, and 1.c6 as black to prevent Scholar's mates a bit more easliy (ended up learning a few moves of the Caro-Kann). Hit 1,000 within a month or so. Can confirm everything said in this video.

dude. this is the thing for which I have been exactly searching. I play the ck and the slav. Why? becuase they are similar. I have been doing it as e4, c6 And when white does 1. d4, i do 1... d5, 2 c3, c5 (like a queen's gambit for black). or 1 d4 d5 2 c4 c6.
