I think that Leonov wanted to capture Tal's knight on e5. If Leonov captures the knight then Tal will recapture with his pawn. If his queen was on d6, then that pawn would be attacking the queen unless he moves his queen somewhere else. I think that is the reason.

0:20 isn't it better for white to move up to e5, rather than taking on d5?
@joshuasim988711 жыл бұрын
Excellent game, thanks Mato. However, I would like to know at 3:20 instead of gxf6, Nxf6. What would happen then?
@stefanholbek244911 жыл бұрын
Would you like a long answer with complete analysis? I looked it over... and ALL ramifications win for White. The "best" variation for Black is Nxf6, exf6 g6, Qxh6 Qf8, fxe7... and Black has lost a Night.
@amandadowd95319 жыл бұрын
Stefan Holbek At 2:23 I was considering Rf5, if pawn takes Rf5, Nxd5 with tempo on Re7, if Rd7 then e6 forking Rd7 and f7, f7 cannot capture e6 because Qh5xQe8, then Rd8 met with Nc7 forking Queen and Rook, if Bxe6 then Nc7xQe8 if Qf8 Nc7xRa8, then Bxe6 met with Nb6 attacking d5, threatening c4, but I don't know how I continue this variation, could you see this being bad or good? My chess notation is not very good though I am sry I am new to chess.
@GoldinDr9 жыл бұрын
+Stefan Holbek Yes, in fact, 19. Rf6 is such a deep and spectacular move that I don't understand why Tal immediately relieved the pressure with 20. Rf4. There were better options with that rook planted firmly on f6. I guess in the heat of the battle he didn't appreciate the full power of his own move! Tal won anyway, of course.
@mickee2 жыл бұрын
@@stefanholbek2449 after Qxh6, if black plays Qf8 it's already mate in 1 with Qh7, right?

At 3:11 why does the Black queen have to take the rook? Black is up in material and can afford to exchange the queen for the rook and then exchange bishop with the monster knight, I think. 2 rooks vs. a queen is playable isn't it?
@Tobbeh9910 жыл бұрын
Y but black's position look very dangerous, there are threats of Qxh6+, Qxh6 Rg8#, the g-pawn can push making it easier to attack black's king. And I see no clear way of exchanging that knight for the bishop, that knight looks very steadily placed on f6, I mean how do you actually attack it?? Maybe possible to trade it for rook but it still takes some moves.
10 жыл бұрын
Tobias Höglund Simple Bd7 alleviates mating threats. After that, it becomes hard to say is Rxg7, Kxg7 still dangerous for black. What do you have in mind? Qh4?
@Tobbeh9910 жыл бұрын
Franjo Tušek Well I can't see any quick mates or easy wins for white. The variation with the queen exchange will probably continue to an endgame. My plans were something of Qh4,g4. And after Bd7 (preventing mate on g8) black's rock is stuck and can easily be won by Qh4 with the knight discovery. Looks a lot more promising for white.
@maniraghubansh10 жыл бұрын
I think white knight, though monstrous, will not find any easy targets. Rooks can easily stay away from harm and protect the king. H6 pawn is the key. White queen can't penetrate easily if there is a rook on h8. Opening g file might hurt white too, what say you?
@lajos-berenyi8 жыл бұрын
+raghubansh mani After Bd7 not immediately take the Queen, but Qh4 (threat Nh5), and black has no defense, eg. Bc6 Rxg7 Kxg7 Nh5 Kf8 Qf6 Re8 Qxh6 Ke7 Qf6+ Kf8 Ng7 (or Bc6 Rxg7 Kxg7 Nh5 Kg6 g4 or Qf8 Rg8+ Qxg8 Qxh6 Qh7 Qxh7checkmate). There is no checkmate immediately, but white has a clear winning position.

is not the fact that black castled just after white. is that Tal exchanged his bad bishop (becouse of the pawn chain) for the good one of black´s. Tal used the white bishop to attack and black could not bring his bishop to the king side.

I hate black's play of just castling after white castles. It's just giving into Tal's plan of planting a really strong knight on e5. Something like ...e5 from black after white castles would have made the game much more interesting. It was basically won at that point, whether it was won by tactics as is Tal's style or a more protracted battle doesn't seem to matter to me. Interesting attack nonetheless.

pawn takes knight threatening rook with no way for black to stop his king being exposed or losing material without gaining position.
