It is a recurring motive in Tal games to sacrifice a piece for a pawn shielding the king.

I got the move, but only because you made me aware that a Tal like move is up! ! It's like tracings art by contacting the dots, yet I did get the YES!! ! Thanks Mato for turning me on to Tal, he is a true artists, win or lose! !!!

Ha ha ha... Not only genius but also he was a chess magician.... I never see such a player playing this type of sacrificing pieces in almost every game....

Thanks Mato :-) Great Game to analyze Mikhail Tal was one of the most Sharp and Aggressive players of all time. He had won the World Chess Championship in 1960, at the age of 26, His Games are always very Sharp .. Such as the one that you presented :-)

The Breyer variation of the Closed Ruy Lopez is filled with subtleties. It's no surprise that Tal was able to unearth a forcing continuation out of what looked like a fairly humdrum position.

There is a whole variation called open variation in which Nxe4 followed by d4 and white eventually recapture on e5 withd pawn. About equal.

As a newbie Tal by way of Mato has taught me to not always go with taking pieces but to focus on the point of the game of getting checkmate. Maybe a more experienced player can say that more eloquently than this novice. Thank you Mato for video !

Unzicker seemingly made only 1 mistake (not contesting the c file). One would think that a mistake of this nature would not be enough to lose the game, but evidently it was.

I don't know how Unziker managed to play so passively with Breyer variation.
@Krzych1134 жыл бұрын
I understand that Unzicker didn't take the pawn on e4 with 5. O-O Nxe4 because of this variation 5. O-O Nxe4 6. Re1 Nf6 7. Nxe5 * ? So White is going to be ahead in developement
