Truly, what a game. There were so many possible opportunities for both players to fall into welcoming traps, and they avoided all of them. Wonderful demonstration of a grandmaster's thought processes, thanks Mato!

Mato, when you describe the variation after Tal's final move, do you understand and see such a variation immediately as soon as you look at the board, or do you scratch your head and think "I wonder why Tal played that, and I wonder why Knaak resigned?" and after many minutes or hours of thinking and trying things out you understand it? Thank you for the great great videos. You are so gifted at showing the drama and beauty and magic of chess.

On move 15, instead of the passive Ng6, h6 was much better and black would still be in the game. That move made black's position more constricted and white won eventually by winning the bishop on h5. Still a very nice game though!

at 3:22 you said that black has no compensation for pawn. but if you look closely e4 pawn can be captured by black with knight. if white knight takes it then black bishop will take white knight and white rook can't take it because it will be then checkmate in two move. :)
@jehushaphat6 жыл бұрын
white wouldn't respond like that though. if black takes pawn on e4 with knight white ends up a piece up by taking bishop out with his knight, attacking rook at the same time. black will then have to take out the knight after which white knight will pick up black knight on e4.

It is often dangerous to take a pawn sitting on a fianchetto file with queen (such as Mato showed at 4:04). This is especially true if the pawn is sitting on the b-file.
@aboudhh9 жыл бұрын
whats a fianchetto file ?
@Watermelon_Man929 жыл бұрын
That's likely not a technical term, so I apologize. But when I say "fianchetto file", I'm referring to the files B and G, because whenever a bishop is developed on b2, g2, b7, or g7, it is said to be a "fianchetto".

@nathanjaroszynski62109 жыл бұрын
Loti Bajrami the queen need not take the rook; black would play king b8 and after rook takes queen rook takes queen, if pawn takes bishop then rook takes knight on e2 and it's not over... :)
@nathanjaroszynski62109 жыл бұрын
bah mah oh yes sorry white need not take the bishop he can just take the pawn on d4 to take the bishop later so that variation also seems to work bravo!
@nathanjaroszynski62109 жыл бұрын
bah mah again (!) my previous comment was incorrect; after queens are exchanged white is forced to move his rook because it is en prise. So Rxc7+ Kb8; RxQ RxQ; Rc4 (or..Rd6) Rxe2; White need not capture the bishop immediately but maybe he should..; It looks like black is winning that variation! But really I cannot tell;

rook takes c7 is also win. in all variation white can capture that bishop on h5 if rook takes c7 white is getting 1 more pawn for free and still have a knight. anyway... i dont believe that this is not a real Tal game. there is no extremly hard to find "killa" move in this video :P
@martinmandev814010 жыл бұрын
at minute 3:20 if bishop takes pawn and white knight recapture after that knight takes knight and if rook takes knight white king will be checkmate.
@jehushaphat6 жыл бұрын
if white responded that way you would be right. but white will first take out the bishop on e4 with his knight on c3, then when black takes back knight on e4, instead of taking knight on e4 with rook which will lead to checkmate for black, white could simply bring his knight on e5 to d3, blocking out any entry by the black rook and having two of black pieces in the line of attack of the white rook (knight on e4 and bishop on e7). one of them will have to go.

After Nxe4 white would play Nxc6, threatening to capture bishop on e7 with check ! But if black first take with bishop: 1. ... Bxe4 then 2. Nxe4 Nxe4 and 3. Nd3 !! and rook is x-raying bishop through the night and white is winning (notice how nd3 is blocking black rook's line preventing the checkmate) : if 3. ... f4 4. f3 Bh4 attacking the rook 5. g3 Nxg3 6. hxg3 Bxg3 and white has night against 2 pawns and should be winning :)

Jack, I'm sorry but Mato has the most concise and fluid way of presenting chess games on KZbin. My favourite parts of a video is where he always shows why one obvious variation (like taking a free pawn) is actually harmful in the long run, when he shows possible checkmate threats (gives reason to why players choose their moves), and of course the best of them all: "We have now reached CRITICAL POSITION of the game, please pause the video and try to find the best move for (white/black) in this position" xD I love these videos
