This guy picks up a horn and plays the crap out of the thing, humble man and a great seeming dude all around. I got the pleasure of speaking with this monster of a player, he gave me one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received from a successful pro.

CarolBrass makes a horn that is 90% copper CarolBrass CTR-9990H-RSM-L Red Brass What a special horn, the sound is to die for. I fell in love the first note! In this .460” bore CUSTOM, red brass is used for the tubing from the leadpipe through the bell… All these parts are made of Red Brass: Leadpipe ML fast taper All inner & outer tuning slide tubes All tuning slide crooks The knuckles between the valve casings The bell section Here's The Link: www.horntrader.com/carolbrass-instruments/359-ctr-9990h-rsm.html

Man, that has to be tough as a horn player. When in college, they discovered that the trombone teacher had developed the same thing and he had to wear cotton gloves around the horns all the time. good luck with that.

Yeah its not on a ton of horns, but belt buckles are super annoying haha

It looks bit like a plastic trumpet to me! But did it sound better than the Bach Commercial you tested? I suspect it did. That low Bb at 2:20 approx was just beautiful, as was all the rest of your playing! You wont have to thank me for the compliment (actually it is an observation), but if I buy one from you, can you give me a little discount?

Hey Steve, I'm currently on a 69'-72' Besson Brevette, I do a lot of lead work and it's been OK. I'm currently in the market for a BRAND NEW horn and have been looking at these Carol Brass situations. Within the next month I'm investing in one of these, it's gonna be either this CTR-6280L-PSM or the CTR-990H-RSM-L, which one (you've ACTUALLY played both), would you recommend for a cat that deals with everything from Big Band Lead to jazz combo in small clubs to gospel mega church to hip hop and EVERYTHING else in between?? Lol, no seriously, I love your playing, but you also used to construct horns so I REALLY value your opinion!! Thanks in advance sir
@HornTrader6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words Kym! Like I said in our email correspondences I think the CTR-4440L-PSM-L Bb Trumpet is a better fit for you and the wide range of music genres you play. Best, Steve

What are your personal thought between one and two piece bells. This is a two piece bell yet projects nicely.
@HornTrader10 жыл бұрын
Old school thinkers would say one piece are better. I'm not so sure anymore. I think if it sounds good don't worry about it. :) Steve

Helo Sylas, CarolBrass only makes a 3C mouthpiece not a 3E or 3D If you want something shallower try the HT3CS-28 for those high notes Here's the link: www.horntrader.com/mouthpieces/133-horntrader-custom-signature-mouthpiece-the-ht-3cs-28.html Best steve
