He actually appeared on (and off) Broadway in musicals: Bells are Ringing, Anything Goes and in the original cast of The Rothschilds. As with Jerry Orbach, who created roles in The Fantasticks, 42nd Street, Chicago among other shows, his later television work tends to overshadow his stage work.
