Carol Burnett Story Location Tour Episode 1
Let’s go on an expansive, documentary-style walking tour that covers the life and career of my absolute favorite person in showbiz, the incomparable Carol Burnett. In EPISODE ONE we’ll take an actual walking tour beginning from Carol’s tiny one-room apartment on the corner of Yucca Street and Wilcox Avenue located just one block North of the world-famous Hollywood Blvd. Carol frequented the boulevard often seeing movies at the Admiral Theater (Old Vine Theater), the Pantages, and Grauman’s Chinese Theater (Mann’s/ TCL). We’ll also see Selma Avenue Grammar Elementary School where Carol and Marilyn Monroe separately attended. Last we’ll check out Le Conte Junior High School on Bronson Avenue and even go inside to see where Carol first got bit by the acting bug.
Join us on an exciting journey as we embark on a nostalgic tour through the iconic locations featured in the inaugural episode of the legendary "Carol Burnett Show." Step into the footsteps of comedy royalty as we visit the stages where timeless sketches unfolded, laughter echoed, and unforgettable moments were born.
In this immersive exploration, we'll guide you through the very spots where Carol Burnett and her talented ensemble cast left an indelible mark on television history. From the iconic curtain opening to the uproarious antics of beloved characters, each location holds a treasure trove of memories waiting to be rediscovered.

Mr. Root, I just happened to be reading J. Randy Tararborelli's biography of Carol Burnett. Your efforts have brought the book to life! These videos are so well produced, and pleasantly narrated. You've found your niche! Well done!

Just now discovered your channel by accident today. As a lifelong Carol Burnett fan and a lifelong old Hollywood freak, I am in Hollywood Heaven right now because this documentary is just fantastic. I lived in Southern California when I was a kid circa 1960, I know that was a long time ago but I remember it like it was yesterday and it was very formative in my life. I remember going to the Hollywood Boulevard Christmas parade that year and seeing all the movie stars and just literally thinking that I was in the place where the gods lived. We moved back to New York unfortunately after a couple of years and it is the biggest regret of my life that I didn't move back to California as I had planned to in the 1970s and 1980s. I moved to South Florida instead where I have been for 35 years, but I visited Los Angeles and Hollywood 3 years ago for the first time in years and I loved every second of it. I realize that being on vacation is not the same as living there, but I never felt more at home than I did there 3 years ago and it's still the number one place that I love, problems and all. On that visit, within the first 10 minutes of checking into my hotel over on Orchid Street, the first place I went was the building on Yucca and Wilcox where Carol Burnett grew up. It was the first place I had to see. We had dinner at Musso and Frank's, the Chateau Marmont, took the typical tours, visited all the graveyards....etc. Best time of my life. I will definitely check out your other videos, and I can't understand why you don't have thousands and thousands of subscribers because you are that good. I've liked Daze with Jordan the Lion since he started about 6 years ago, but I have to admit that i, like many, was disappointed when he decided to move from Los Angeles to Florida a couple of years ago. He's still an interesting guy and I still often watch him, but the main reason he appealed to me was because he was in Los Angeles and many people wish he had stayed, though I understand why he left. Anyway, sorry for rambling.. I just had a CBD gummy lol. Great job and I hope you are still doing this because you are excellent at it, very intelligent, very well spoken and interesting. ( And, cute. Lol.) Best of luck to you.

In the midst of so many screaming and fighting for the Biggest Victim Award, there's Carol. She could easily have vied for the title, as most of us can. But her phenominal spirit didn't want it. She's so incredible. I love your work! On to next episode!

Recently came across your youtube channel. Binged this weekend on your Carol Burnett videos. Wow!! Carol and Julie Andrews have been my idols since my teenaged years. I now actually teach a class in adult education on Carol and Julie, which has become a very popular. Thank you so much for all the info about Carol's life. I knew about 80% of what you posted, but learned a lot more additional info from your postings. But, to see the sites from the various phases of Carol" s life was so emotional and priceless. It made me love her even more. Thank you so very much. All the best to you.

I'm sure Carol suffered from abandonment issues. That she could raise herself up to be so successful is a great achievement. Sadly Carol had 2 of her children who gave her serious issues.

This is fun. I too lived with my nana after my mom passed at the age of 1yr old. She was awesome and it was a different life than when i was 6 and my dad married again. She just took such good care of me. ❤ Thanks for bringing that back into my mind. I hope you do really well at these awesome video stories you make. You have a great voice, well spoken and a luv. Thanks for showing us around the cooler parts of the best old parts of Hollywood. This is really cool. ❤

And to think this is the first story of a kid, Carol, who actually grew up right in Hollywood. J Even though she wasn't born there, she pretty much grew up on the streets that people had come to follow their dreams, she was playing war games with the kids in the neighborhood! That's pretty awesome...❤

OMGosh, Justin, this is amazing. Another fantastic presentation! Thank you. I can't wait to watch the rest. When you got to the part about little Carol playing in front of Grauman's Chinese theater, I remembered that I saw Annie there, with her playing Miss Hanigan. It was called Mann's at that time, but I love thinking that she starred in a film shown there after her inability to afford to go to a movie in that theater.

Your story about your speech reminds me of my somewhat similar story. Senior year English my teacher wanted us to write a paper about our favorite poet and sharing our favorite poem. But before we got started he had each of us go up and tell him who we were going to write about. I picked James. D. Morrison (Jim Morrison of The Doors fame). When I told the teacher who I picked he goes “he’s not a poet”. I then pull a couple of books from my backpack out and asked “well, what are these then?” They were two different PUBLISHED collections of Jim’s poetry. The cute girl whose desk was right next to his said to the teacher “he’s got you there!” I got a C, but by senior year, I was good with that, especially considering I had to argue just so I got to write the paper! Long story short, Jim Morrison IS a poet. Oh and Carol Burnett is pretty cool too!

Hi Justin, I wanted to tell you that since I discovered your documentary on the life of Carol Burnett a year ago, sometimes I like to watch it again. It's really interesting, thank you so much, I didn't know a lot of things, because I haven't had the chance to read her books yet, and you have an incredible talent for telling things and keeping people hooked. 🎥✌😃

When that Hotel Wilcox building was being refurbished in the late 2010s the first floor ceiling looked so low I was wondering how much headroom would there be. From the windows outside it look okay but never have been in it. It is a bar.

I thoroughly enjoyed this but the lackadaisical words about religion are not well taken by me but we are all entitled to them. Also I think I remember in her show she did the skit about the princess and the pea and it was wonderful!! Thank you for all of your hard work!
