Justin, thoroughly enjoyed this. What a fantastic job you did pulling everything together and sure that couldn't have been easy but thank you so much. Am 62 years old now and was a huge Carpenter's fan and was a member of their fan club. Wrote them frequently asking all sorts of crazy ass questions. Several of the reply letters I got back, noticed the unusual handwriting. Compared the handwriting in those letters to Karen's signature and it appears that it was Karen who answered those letters. In one of the newsletters, Eve mentioned that Karen would sometimes help out with the fan club mailings. I still have those letters around here somewhere

Thanks for giving Miss Davies some of the recognition she deserves - as her own remarkable person, not just her relationship with Hearst. It was her home, not Hearst’s. And she had very little resemblance to Susan Alexander - who married and divorced Kane and who when she met Kane had no connection w show business, while Davies was a successful Ziegfeld girl.

I think i danced with Belinda Carlisle at a nightclub (Neighbours) in Seattle in the mid-late 80's... I had no idea who i was asking to dance.. 4 songs later, we stopped. she went off and someone came to me and said, "do you know who you were just dancing with"..? I said she said her name is Belinda... why..? are you interested..? do you want me to introduce you..? I didn't know at the time Who Belinda Carlisle was.. And i'm not even sure if it was (from what i know now). I was just a gay boy looking for a gay boy.. I just really wanted to dance to some great songs.. a cute girl (who reminded me of a girl i went to church with) was standing on the edge of the dance floor.. so i asked.. with no expectations. I think it was Belinda after going back to the old GoGo's videos.. She looked just like my church friend. If it was you, Belinda... Say hello.. :). Rob the weird gay boy at Neighbors.. :)

WOW! This was wonderful. The interview is so sweet, genuine, and fresh...and so much more enjoyable than the contrived celebrity interviews we get on the major networks. This meant a lot to me because when I was a little gay boy growing up in the 1970s, trapped in a homophobic redneck town, The Carol Burnett Show was the one escape I looked forward to every week. Carol Burnett brought so much fun, positive energy, and light to me during a very dark time. Somehow, through her, I always knew there was a lot to look forward to and to just hang on because eventually, things would get better. And what blew me away in this interview is when she spoke about Jim Nabors and her perception of gay people. She has a loving, kind energy, and that resonated to all of us on a weekly basis for eleven years. We are so lucky to have her in our world.

Very thorough! I grew up in Northbrook and remember when the film crews filmed the street I grew up on in 85. All the kids were chasing the car that was driving while being filmed. My street was the one you filmed with the old lady who was swerving in front of Ferris’ dad. It’s Mallard Drive and within walking distance of Glenbrook north. It’s a day I won’t forget. My parent’s house is the first reddish house in the scene on the right side of the street. If you watch the whole scene and lookout the back window of the old lady’s car/Ferris’ dad’s car you can see kids following right before it cuts away. These are my neighbors.

How thrilling for you to hear that your tour video was actually watched by Carol Burnett! That alone could be a reason to die happy. And, I have to say that hearing that, not only did you get invited to Carol Burnett's official birthday party, but you were actually sat at the family table actually brought tears of joy to my eyes for you! What a DREAM for you to be able to call her your friend. It is SO OBVIOUS how much you truly love her! Bless you, Justin.

My cousin Brad was a huge fan of the Carpenters...i believe it was the 70's he went to see a concert.. Everyone in the crowd was cheering before she came out on stage. it was an excited build up.. the moment she came out on stage and the crowd took a look at her, and went silent. Sad that all they noticed was her extremely wide hips (pear shaped).. The silence spoke volumes.. My cousin sitting in the auditorium nearly cried. He also struggled with his weight and the reaction of the crowd, when they saw Karen hit home. Brad was greatly affected by the crowds reaction. His admiration for Karen's strength grew. but he never got over how cruel the crowd was.

Late to the comments but this is my favorite show. Thanks for this tribute, Justin. While there are a handful of episodes I skip because I don't like the plot or a guest character, it's impossible to pick a favorite, though the episode in which Dorothy and Stan pretend to still be married during a visit from Uncle Angelo is up there. Hopefully people have a way to watch the original episodes (e.g., on DVD); the syndicated shows have been so chopped down (in order to cram in even more commercials) that I estimate around 35% of each episode has been deleted - including some of the best scenes/lines.

Love your tours of movie history. I saw this film in the theaters when it came out. I also love the Miracle mile. I have shopped at the May Co. and Orbachs when they were a thing. I have been to LACMA in all of its incarnations this such. Nostalgia trip. I have a couple suggestions for future dives into Hollywood history, please visit the locations of the movie Echo Park this would be my choice for second feature on a double bill with this one. My other pick would be Falling Down. Lots of good places all over Los Angeles to explore. Peace

Hiya J you should be so proud of yourself for this excellent story of Carpenters. The most beautiful way that you have captured darling Karen in her short troubled life. I myself suffered this awful illness in my teens and early 20s. I can only speak from experience but her mother Agnes was the root cause. Also the nasty press have blood on their hands too with their comments. I strongly believe her mothers love could have saved her along with more understanding of the illness. Darling Richard had his demons too to deal with. Luckily he caught his in time. I will always play Carpenters music , they both were amazing in their own rights. God bless Karen xxx I truly hope that Richard and Mary are enjoying their life. I wish them and family all the best wishes in the world. Well Done J you are a true credit to this website xxxx

Wes Craven ignoring Nightmare 2 for his story involvement in Nightmare 3 sort of began a tradition that’s much more common nowadays: The creator of a franchise returns, and ignores everything that was previously done without them. James Cameron did this with “Terminator: Dark Fate” (which I loved) John Carpenter with the recent Halloween movies, etc. That said, I enjoy both Nightmare 2 and Nightmare 3 as very different movies, and people ought to watch and appreciate each of them without it being some kind of a contest.
