I'm old enough to have watched the Carol Burnett show the first time around as a kid. It's too bad that we don't really appreciate things while we are in the middle of them, but only after some time passes and we reflect back.

You have hooked me! This is my second time to watch a collection of your storytelling. You do this like you are walking and talking with a friend and makes it so inviting and personal. Amazing job! I will keep watching more. I enjoyed the first one but when I saw you had done a collection on Carol Burnett I had to take the time. Thank you for your investment and passion.

Hi Justin, just spent the day watching the entire Carol Burnett videos. I laughed and cried, just a wonderful series of videos. I learnt so much and I often watch the Carol Burnett show on KZbin and had no idea Vicki Lawrence played the old mother. Nor did I know she sang one of my favourite Country songs “Lights Go Out in Georgia”. Thank you so much, a day well spent ❤️🇬🇧

Before signing in to the chorus with the Carpenters (as I mentioned in the comments on your other vlog), I was in a show choir like the Young Americans in High School. Our choir director took us to a taping of the Carol Burnett Show during the last season. He had a connection there and set up a little performance for us. We wore our uniforms, and during the question-and-answer section, Mr. Thompson raised his hand, and Carol called on him. He asked if we could sing a song to her. She said, of course. And the 12 of us marched up the stairs and filed onto the stage. We were in a semi-circle facing the audience, and she faced us. We sang Happy Together acapella, and she had a genuine smile. Afterward, she shook our hand or kissed us on the cheek as we exited the stage. It was a moment for sure. I am tearing up as I write about remembering it. As it turned out, they edited that section before air because they couldn't get the rights to the song. And besides, it was a big chunk of time. But you could see us in the audience when my best friend asked her to do the Tarzan yell. At least we all have a fond memory, and I felt like it touched Carol.

The actors breaking character during the Carol Bernett show was absolute gold. And the whole bit with Tim Conway following Harvey Korman on stage after losing the Emmy to him - pure comedic genius.

Thank you so much for such a thorough background on Chasen’s and the Los Angeles area back when Carol’s show was on the air. I’ve always wanted to know what it was like in LA during those times. The immense knowledge you share during your tour of the historic city provides such a fascinating experience! I love hearing about Carol’s life off-camera, it makes me adore her even more. Thank you Justin!!

@TheJustinRootShow oh Justin!!! So happy happy to hear this!! Have you ever been in Roscoe Arbuckles old home? Or where Jean Harlow lived w Paul Bern? There is an amazing set of gargoyles at the Paul Bern home. When I was living in LA I lived in Carol's old neighborhood not knowing she lived there! Until I read her book I didn't know the exact location!! You are a sweet, wonderful, passionate young man! I'm so happy to find your Mabel Normand/Deane Taylor documentary. I know there are ghosts in the place of his old bungalow!!

Hi Justin, I would say that I completely agree with you about what you say on the 27th minute about Paul Newman. 😍👌😉 Although my first wish if I had a time machine would be to see an episode of "The Carol Burnett Show" live in studio 33. 💖✌😃

You forgot to include America's my most famous and loved musicians the pop era. Micheal Jackson starting appearing with his brothers and then later guest starring by himself. Thank you Carol Mike and the boys will never be forgotten neither will you be forgotten. Harvey Cotman had an absolutely beautiful voice.

Interesting! I wonder what kept Carol and her family from putting up some kind of imposing fence and gate to keep the people out. A shame that they were forced to move.

Hi Justin - I'm writing this on the chance you might read it, though it's been a year since you published episode 5: I wondered if you know anything about a remark Carol (allegedly) made, published in our local newspaper (this was back in the 80s). It read: "Carol Burnet says I hate Alan Alda. The Enquirer can print that sucker!" This was the gist of the article - just those 2 sentences. Do you know anything about this?? Did Carol not get along with Alan Alda?
