I loved the sweet good girl/repentant bad boy coupling of Carol and Jay. I fondly remember their storylines and their apartment that was across from the beloved Wade Bookstore. So many viewers like this era because of wonderful storytelling that focuses on the characters' motivations, as well as the understated performances of the actors.

Carol was a darling! One of the sweetest, beautiful characters ever. Rita M. Walter is just as sweet and beautiful as her character!

I just love seeing this sweet, caring, and gentle Barbara - her friendship with the elderly patient a couple weeks back was quite touching. 2000's Barbara wouldn't have been caught dead helping anybody! :)

Her character was completely destroyed around that time and all she did was glare/bitch at everyone. Course, the show went to crap as well. My beloved soap that I had followed practically daily since 1978 was gone -- the 2000-2010 version was simply some other, and completely boring, soap. I did watch the final episode where Lisa got all of 5 seconds on air so I guess they could give "Luke" or some ditsy teenager more air time which had practically nothing to do with the tremendous history of this once great soap. It's like all the soaps around that time were completely turned over to creative teams that knew NOTHING about what great soap is. Viewers left by the droves and most have been cancelled now so I can't be that far off. God, I could write a novel about this.....

Colleen Zenk was so, so, so pretty. Gorgeous eyes and pretty hair. (Her looks hold up over time better than many of the other ones sported by the gals on this show.) My own favorite hairstyle of hers was @ 1988-89 when it was straight and just above shoulder-length.

Something happens very quickly with Sheila and Tom, because Tom and Barbara get back together, become engaged and she calls off the wedding as James enters the picture, and that starts to unfold at the end of February, 1980, and by May, Tom Tammi is gone as Tom Hughes. Here it is December 79 already!

These old ATWT from 1979--80 reveal the drastic aging problem they had; Ellen Stewart was in the same generation as Bob Hughes; how then Kim, a former love interest of Bob, is the same age as her husband Dan Stewart, who was Ellen's son ??? Dan Stewart was born around 1960 but by early 70's was an adult ??? Ellen is roughly the same age as Bob and Kim but is supposed to be from the earlier generation ? Lisa, Bob and Ellen were all in the same generation; therefore their respective children (Tom Hughes and Dan Stewart) should be around the same age; so why is Tom Hughes around 30 here in 1979 but Dan Stewart was already mid-40's and dead ? And with a teenage daughter ?

After all, it is drama, and characters age in plays from act to act to suit the story. The only problem really is for Patricia Bruder, since she was turned into a grandmother so quickly--her character was basically aged, too, to being older than Bob, closer to Nancy. With Penny off camera, you could imagine that Penny and Ellen were much older than Bob and Lisa. (Ellen Stewart's being sidelined as a grandmother instead of a leading lady shows Eileen Fulton's wisdom in having her contract stipulate that Lisa not become a grandmother in this era.)

Am I the only one who finds both Annie and Dee extremely annoying? I've never seen an Annie I like. The only Dee I've seen that I liked was Vicky Dawson. But even her I could take or leave. And boy, John Dixon was annoying as well! I guess it's fitting that he and Dee got together. But John was annoying in a "fun" way.

John was a bad boy. The actor, Larry Bryggman, married the actress who played Dee in real life. They were together for five years.
