And thank you for commenting. :) I actually wanted a 6580 - I've had two in the past and thought they were fantastic...But someone approached me with this 6280 before I found a 6580. You're a lucky person - that 6580 is a splendid horn. :)

By the way, I remember 'Mannix' very well. ;) I acquired my new-old-stock 6580H from Trent Austin Custom Brass for a price I could not pass up, only about seven months ago. Not long after that, KZbin served up a couple of your videos on this model and, along with my own excited reaction to the horn, your evaluation(s) of this model just completely validated my purchase choice! I was very happy about that. My comment on Carol Brass is always "my 2015 Puje Classic serial number 12 was built with CB valves/valve block and I must say they are some of the best". Nice horn there..

Timothy, thank you for your kind comment. That is a great Carol horn and the GR mouthpieces are superb pieces, I have to say. Frankly, I thought my playing was not my best - but then again, my 63 year old ears may be off. :) Take care and have a great weekend! :)

Looking for a mellow dark sound for use in church settings…your thoughts? Have been experimenting with an inexpensive fluglehorn. Love the bell.

Frank, This is certainly not a bright horn, but it's not particularly dark either. Of course a mouthpiece can darken anything, but this plays quite a bit like a Bach Stradivarius 37G, I'd think. For church, I like a cornet with a very deep V mouthpiece (like a Curry VC [Vintage Cornet]), and a flugle definitely darkens up nicely. Good luck - churches certainly deserve our best. :) Thanks for commenting too! :)

Those old shows had some fantastic theme songs, didn't they? :) I used this on a vid a couple years back and asked, 'Does anyone know what song this theme is from?' And of all things - a guy from the UK knew it was Mannix... Who knew the UK had even heard of that show?! :)
