My dad was a U.S. Army Ranger in WWII, often behind enemy lines. To be honest I think he had PTSD, but it wasn't called that back then. He didn't like to talk about the war, but when he saw this sketch when it first aired he almost fell out of his chair laughing. So believe it or not, there is actually an historical allusion to that - Canadian soldiers were notoriously feared by the German soldiers in both WWI and WWII for their ferocity in combat. (look up the Devil's Brigade, and for an even crazier story - look up Thain Wendell MacDowell and the Battle of Vimy Ridge) Somewhat humorously, when Canada took German prisoners of war (World War 1 and 2), the prisoners were treated kindly, and some of them even ended up staying in Canada after the war's end. However - all the POW's that were there were ones captured by other Allied nations like the UK, USA, etc. This was due to the tendency of the Canadian soldiers to not take any prisoners... We joke here in Canada that a good chunk of the rules outlined in the Geneva Convention are due to us lol.

Allison Holly Definately! SNL hasn't really been all that funny since the days of John Belushi and Eddie Murphy. These days, there's too much politics on "comedy" shows, and not enough that's really funny, in a traditional way. Not much that's really creative, like this skit, which was hilarious.

Allison Holly yes it is. Still love it today.

That's because they did'nt have to resort to satirizing politics to be funny. Their writers and cast were a lot more talented than the present day SNL staff.
@dildonius6 жыл бұрын
Henry Soto the fuck are you talking about? SNL has been satirizing politics since season one. Dipshit stooges like you are only bitching about it now because you cant handle being the butt of the joke.
@dildonius6 жыл бұрын
Roger Warith SNLs ratings have consistently been higher than they've been in a good long while, and CNN is in no way "promoting" the show. Are you sure you know what that word means? Also, having the last name "Soto" has nothing to do with one's political views so idk what point you thought you were making there either. And you also managed to ignore the entire point here, which is that SNL has satirized American politics since season ONE! Maybe even EPISODE one. No one has bitched and cried about it over the last FORTY-TWO YEARS as hard as these babies have been crying since 2015. And so the only reason this could possibly be is that Trump's little cult simply can NOT handle being made fun of and have an autistic MELTDOWN whenever the Dear Leader is made fun of. Politics and comedy have been intertwined for decades. Get over it, ya whiny dipshit.

Ken Lieck If I was crabby, I wouldn't laugh at anything. This stuff is hilarious because it isn't gutter-minded, full of obscene language, or sex-obsessed. You name me one modern sitcom, comedy movie, or comedian who doesn't rely on that sort of stuff. I'll wait.

@@sclogse1 - Why are you attacking me? I wasn't talking to you. And I don't see how my comment is "predictable" . I grew up in the generation of Carol Burnett and comedy in that era was more full of talent than now. I have been to plenty of improv nights my dear and often I notice comedians have to resort to swearing and making derogatory comments to get a laugh. To me, that is not good comedy. My comment is not predictable, it is my opinion and the truth. You make zero sense so, please refrain from your silly, childish attacks on me for stating a truthful opinion.
