I prefer the intimacy of this version. Its like she's singing it right to you in a room. Its very stripped down and it allows you to really hear the words and the beauty of the music. Its great. Carole King can do no wrong in my book.

Perfectly put. On top of all that, King also carries a very slight remorse and pain to her inflection. As if her new love is bringing her away from a pain she still carries on some level.

You both may then like this version from 12 year old Angelina Jordan kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKWZfJt4rc6UetE. This was recorded days after Aretha passed. It is recorded more in the Carole King style, however, as a tribute to Aretha. Slowed down and heartfelt.

My mom tells me Carole King is the only music I would listen to in the hospital. That’s a really short version, but to add to that, I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 13, and noise and lights bothered me a lot. But whenever my hospital room was close to the activity room, I guess I didn’t mind listening to Carole King and the activities person would leave the door open so I can hear it. I don’t remember that much about that time, but when my mom asked me if I remember some of these songs and I just started singing, it shocked me. I don’t know why I’m sharing this, but it’s just a personal story.

@@FuzzyElf thank you. I think that it was a start to recovery for me, because I was in the hospital a lot for plenty of reasons to do with my epilepsy, but it definitely helped me get over music just being noise and becoming something that helped me get through a lot of tests and surgeries.

For me this is the best version. Why? Because this version is the most sincere. These words were her feelings when she wrote this song and therefore is this the most personal version of all, no matter how great the other singers who sang it too. The music goes so wel together with the lyrics and when she comes to the bridge with the words "ooh baby what you've done to me" it all goes from amazement to solution in words and music. So much honesty, this is pure art and on par with somebody like Joni Mitchell, two of the greatest singer/songwriters in history.

God this woman was channeling some serious life emotions she was beyond a doubt tapped into the universal consciousness as were so many of the writers of that era. When they are asked where the inspiration for their songs most don’t know they say it just popped in their head... I really wish today’s musicians would have those moments of clarity.... the times are different now we’ve lost that feeling of love as our core emotion....I’m afraid if humanity as a whole never regains that feeling of love for our world or for our neighbors or ultimately for our selves.... certainly it will ensure a rapid end of our time on the top of food chain....there’s still hope

At one time, perhaps still, Carole's "Tapestry" sold more copies than any other album ever. I wore out two vinyl copies myself, and have a pretty worn CD. Carole's music has outlived the medium. What a beautiful human being she is.

This song was as TAILOR MADE FOR THE QUEEN OF SONG ARETHA FRANKLIN! I have both Carole kings Tapestry and A.R. greatest hits both versions are beautiful... even though Gerry Goffin Carole king and Jerry Wexler wrote this masterpiece... Aretha Franklin's version of this song makes me cry...its perfect from beginning to end. Carole kings version makes me think. Only two women can sing this song with emotion, joy and respect without ZOOMING through it..like others! That's A.R. and C.K! Folks check out the song Up On The Roof by The Drifters. Carole king wrote this song also and sang her version... Amazing!

Carole also had a hand in creating the song, "Wasn't Born To Follow" as well. It is not fully clear whether or not she just provided the music on this one, or actually contributed to the lyrics as well.

Carole King is a great writer. I think she is what elton John, Prince and Phil Collins modeled their songwriting from. All great writers!!
