For me part of the beauty of Carole King is that she never pretended to be anyone but her simple beautiful self. The album cover speaks volumes. Just sitting there in the window, relaxed and barefoot, with a beloved kitty, looking vaguely surprised that anyone would care to pay attention. Other musicians should take a page from that book. But then again, maybe most just don't have what it takes.
@BruceBeatlefan4 жыл бұрын
Well said, couldn't agree more. The first thought that comes to mind when the name Carole King comes up is, "one of the three greatest American pop songwriters in history and she is upstaged by her cat on the cover of her greatest work".

When you're down and troubled And you need some loving care And nothing, nothing is going right Close your eyes and think of me And soon I will be there To brighten up even your darkest night [Chorus] You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running To see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there You've got a friend [Verse 2] If the sky above you Grows dark and full of clouds And that old North wind begins to blow Keep your head together And call my name out loud Soon you'll hear me knocking at your door [Chorus] You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running, a-running, yeah, yeah-eah To see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there Yes I will [Bridge] Now ain't it good to know that you've got a friend When people can be so cold They'll hurt you, yes, and desert you And take your soul if you let them Oh, but don't you let them [Chorus] You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running, a-running, yeah, yeah-eah To see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes I will (oh, yes I will) [Outro] You've got a friend You've got a friend Ain't it good to know You've got a friend Ain't it good to know Ain't it good to know Ain't it good to know You've got a friend Oh, yeah now You've got a friend Yeah baby You've got a friend Oh, yeah You've got a friend

I’m almost 13 now, but when I was little my mom would sing this song or play it, and I’ve been feeling sad lately, and she just sent this to me. It feels so good to hear this song years later. ❤️🌸

Yes that’s how it speaks to me! I was a young teen when I first heard this & it moved my world, now Im 70 & I just wanted to hear this song & will listen to more, wonderful song wonderful the way it still moves me! Admittedly I was on a Youth for Christ trip & one of the girls sang this song so it is strongly associated with ‘Jesus’ saying U gotta friend’ 👍🎂🎶

I had a dearest best friend in high school… I always thought of this song as our song…he and I lost track of each other over the years as happens in life, but happily connected with each other at our 50th high school reunion in 2016… as if no time had passed we are, once more, the dearest of friends. A friendship like this is a very precious gift. ❤

My name is ricky and I'm 43 yrs old.... It was always me and my mom.... She had divorced my dad when I was 3 and later on in life they grew to be ok again but for awhile it was just me and her.... I come from a big family So i was always ok.... Since I could remember my mom would clean my house, do dishes etc. And play this aulbum over and over.... I grew to love it.... As I got older and we would talk life, this song became our song and we said we would dance to it if I ever got married.... Well I met the girl that I'm going to spend my life with, and ironically my mom has known her since I was in The first grade.... November of 2020 my mom got sick and she wasn't doing so well and she passed....will never get to do that dance.... Some days are better then others but life isn't the same with her gone.... She was the sweetest and most giving person I have ever known.... She taught me so much about life and how to survive.... She was my bestfriend and my number 1 fan.... I hope I make her proud and when it's my time I hope she's the first 1 there.... No matter what, this will always be our song, forever.....

Ladies and gentlemen, you´re listening to what eventually becomes the most perfect song ever composed. Its perfection stuns me...of course, I´m already 48 and on the 11th of May, 2019 it will be a week my dear mother passed away, so the difference in meaning for me from when I first heard it at age 12 to now is quite evident. It´s amazing: all the comments on this song say what I´m really feeling!!

When you're down and troubled, And you need some love and care, And nothing, nothing is going right Close your eyes and think of me, And soon I will be there To brighten up even your darkest night. You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running to see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there You've got a friend If the sky above you grows dark and full of clouds And that old north wind begins to blow Keep your head together and call my name out loud Soon you'll hear me knocking at your door You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running, running, yeah, yeah, to see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes I will. Now, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend When people can be so cold? They'll hurt you, yes, and desert you And take your soul if you let them, Oh, but don't you let them You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running, running, yeah, yeah, yeah, to see you again. Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes I will. You've got a friend You've got a friend Ain't it good to know, you've got a friend? Ain't it good to know? Ain't it good to know? Ain't it good to know, you've got a friend? Oh yeah, now Oh, you've got a friend Yeah, baby You've got a friend Oh yeah... You've got a friend

The 70's was a time of superalative song writing, whether this type of sophisticated folk or rock, or pop.. or even cheesy gimmick music.... the common thread? It was all very very well written. Nothing today is well written it all sounds the same.

There is a video of Carol and James Taylor, singing this together, you can see the admiration they have for each other. Don't compare versions, enjoy them all, this is a great song. Carol King was an amazing song writer as was James Taylor and both versions are beautiful.

When I was in my teens, my music teacher gave me this song. And I'm very glad he did 🙂 I re-discovered Carole King one night when BBC Four did a re-run of one of her 1971 concerts. What can I say - absolutely exquisite singing and playing. Carole was/is a pro in action, and so were those with her that night.
