Benjamin Butterworm almost had a point about tax rates for graduates but ruined it because of his misogyny and hatred for old people.
@watercyclist232 жыл бұрын
Benjamin is a disgrace and a sad and worrying example of the younger generation. 40 years ago we respected older people. We had a strong manufacturing base and young and old worked together in factories. I clocked in when I was 16. We were taught to work and work hard. We had limited opportunities. They did not encourage young people from manufacturing towns into University. We saved mo ey and did not like debt. I have never had a credit card. We were taught that we were not entitled to anything. Priority was to work. We were taught to live within our means and be resilient. London was always expensive to buy. Interest 12% on my first home in Leicester. No central heating, double glazing insulation, heating and with damp. I was happy to have my home outside of London. Benjamin does not understand that people like me worked 40 years, our ancestors fought in two world wars for us. I know they worker and died for us and so respect what they did. I worked , will work , be strong adaptable and resilient. Sadly young people like Benjamin exist - with no resilience and no real work ethic. An entitled, disrespectful generation who disregard what older people enabled for them. They have opportunities, but see themselves as victims. They cannot adapt because they are still children. We had to grow up young. It is a sad state of affairs. They have so much but respect nothing of what those before them did for them.

Plus 3 million unemployed in the early 80s. I was there.
@watercyclist232 жыл бұрын
@@jakethekipper Yes, the largest unemployment since 1930s and we had just come out of the 70's inflation, strikes including bin men strikes , power cuts etc. I was scared I would never get a job and went straight into the factory where I learnt to work. I have always saved and prioritise living within my means. There was no expectation then for working class youth. I had to fight against that and still do. Benjamin represents an ignorant, disrespectful element of youth. Sadly he is not alone in his views

Silly boy! Tuition fees would've been a luxury for me. By 16 I was working full time & doing evening classes to get a qualification. Later, renting & having to work evenings too, just to make ends meet. Later, bought a house when interest rates were sky high. Finally, had to wait 6 years longer than anticipated to get my pension. Not complaining, just saying - we didn't have time to masquerade as the opposite sex & invent problems for ourselves like his generation do.
@XanderHill1012 жыл бұрын
Whilst the interest rates were higher average house prices were approximately 4x average working wages, now it’s closer to 10x. It is demonstrably more expensive to buy a house now. The supply hasn’t met the demand, older generations can’t be blamed for that it’s due to policies started under Tony Blair and then not corrected even after 12 years of the current government.

If you are are earning 30,000 in London you must be working part-time.
@pjdilans12 жыл бұрын
Talking about young people wanting to live in a 400k flat in London. If your that pretentious that you "absolutely must live in London". Then you will stop whinging about the cost of it, choose a well paying field to work in, study a meaningful degree, find a job, work your way up in that company and earn more money. Or you can move out of London and get a £220,000 3 bedroom house up north and you can still earn a decent wage. Things in life dont come easy. You make your own choices if Londons unaffordable the youth should move out. If businesses start seeing that they cant get younger workforce or succession planning becomes a real issue then who knows things might change. Businesses might start to offer help with young peoples housing etc. To draw them back. Please only come as far north as Manchester if your like Benjamin though wouldnt want you ruining Geordie land with these pr*cks.

I am 60 this year and I worked my butt off for years, and years and years to gather my wealth. I was at poverty level until well into my thirties, working two jobs and paying off student debt. The difference between the under 30's and us old people is that when we were under 30 we knew the way to success was through hard work and sacrifice. Something poor little Butterworth has no clue.
@yvonnehayton67532 жыл бұрын
Mrs Pleasants. You're the same age as me so why were you paying off student debt? Fees were paid and you got a grant on top if you didn't get parental contribution. But then only 8% of school leavers went to university in those days. Nowadays 50% go and the universities are run as businesses and only in it for the money.

Also I don't consider myself old!
@mrspleasants85292 жыл бұрын
@@yvonnehayton6753 I grew up in the USA and I came from a poor family so no parental help. I paid myself, while I went to school carrying eighteen credits with two kids and worked. I paid off all my student debt about six months before I started paying my kids. Perhaps, we are making it too easy for kids nowadays.
@yvonnehayton67532 жыл бұрын
Mrs Pleasants. Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. I stupidly assumed you were from the UK. I was a university student in Scotland in the 80s. My tuition fees were paid by the UK government and I had a small grant on account of my parents, who had made me go to uni, being wealthy enough to supply a parental contribution, which they didn't but that's another story. You definitely had it a lot tougher than me. Respect, and congratulations on making it xx
