okay, so here’s the thing. it’s my ultimate dream to match crown someday, but unfortunately, i’m a saxophone player with little to no brass experience. does anyone have any advice for someone moving to another instrument? (such as mellophone)

It's different for everyone, best to ask another saxophone player who's learned a brass instrument for advice. Your second instrument will be easier to learn because musicality is musicality, it doesn't matter what instrument. Get yourself a brass instrument and a good teacher, that's all I can tell you. Join an ensemble with your second instrument if possible, that will help as well.

I’m a saxophone player shooting for crown someday too. I picked up mello and the hardest part has just been doing it. Talk to other mellos at your school to help! Take as many lessons as you can and find a field to be on next summer because the best way to learn is with experience. You got this!
