Had to say, I didn’t see this live, but I truly regret it. Glad I caught y’all in the lot in Indy. And BIG ups for playing “Define Dancing” from WALL-E - I turned my head in the lot as soon as I heard it and yelled “Who’s playing WALL-E?!” Can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you, it’s always a treat experiencing your musical arrangements.

From scene setting, to musicality and blend with the brass, to all the 9lets and crazy rhythms, no one writes quite like you and Mike. Loved the book this year and I hope you guys find a spot at a another corps soon (so I can go March there hopefully)

Is shah, gone too? That's a shame. They created a great product given the show design.

Did you ask Crown if you could post this? Or was it allowed in the contract between yall? Im genuinely curious because I'd love it if other perc scores for other shows could be released :)

What hardware do you use for writing music, laptop or PC I’m looking to officially upgrade and I was curious if you had any suggestions
@KevinSShah28 күн бұрын
Currently I’m on an M1 Max MacBook Pro 64gb ram … is that required for what I’m doing?… just depends on speed and how much you have loaded and how quickly you want things to load. I think for most people you can get really strong results with most apple silicone Macs with 16+ gigs of ram. Just depends on your desired level of future proofing / how much live processing / instruments you want to be running. Just starting out? Get a base model M1 with as much ram as you can afford. Scale up from there based on your budget / professional needs.

@@KevinSShah thank you! I was definitely looking at the Mac book pro as an upgrade. Was the ram upgrade a thing that you did in house with apple when you bought the laptop or did you have to go somewhere else?

Kevin, what was it like writing the closer in coordination with John Mackey?
@KevinSShah2 ай бұрын
It was actually a lot of fun personally getting to know John and geeking out over our respective processes. The entire opening percussion feature was a puzzle piece that needed some solving in the mapping of the show - John had originally written the top of the movement as a building / driving front ensemble texture that later introduced the battery voice. Due to the program and the visual event pacing - when we got to that spot in the show we decided to create a battery focused introduction. But since we really loved the harmonic language and the development of what John originally wrote it took a problem solving approach to the top. What I ended up doing was taking John’s original and loading it into Logic as all midi. I grouped all the mallet stuff together and put them on some synth style keyboards and added a ton of reverb. So what you’re hearing in the sound design at the top of that movement is the original midi but treated with a ton of reverb so you get this blurry harmonic development. Then Mike composed over that pacing - and then I went back and orchestrated the FE and tried to pull from the original some motivic fragments to tie the front ensemble together with the battery. One of these days I’ll share a video of the process 😄
