Great video. I love the 49er angle. I was a 49ers fan before the Panthers came to town and beating them made the transition to the hometeam much easier.

Thank you so much. I appreciate your comment greatly. I couldn't stand the 49ers because they were so good but I respected them a lot. I am going to do a follow up video because there is so much more I want to say like how good Kerry Collins was in that 2nd game against SF. As a kid, it was something for me to see this expansion team beating this team that had such great success for a decade and a half. Thanks again for the comment. Hopefully CAR will get back to the playoffs soon. Happy Holidays.

I have been wanting to do the Detroit Lions in the 2000s but maybe I will do the Panthers. The Panthers franchise is interesting. John Fox was a solid coach. Have a great 2021. The Panthers loaded up on veterans in free agency in their first few years and focused on winning right away because they had to build a fanbase FAST in a region where people had many other loyalties at the time (49ers, Steelers, Cowboys, Raiders, Washington, etc.)
@90sSportsNostalgia3 жыл бұрын
You know that is interesting about the comment trying to quickly develop a fanbase, is that can kind of be a problem with some expansion teams because the fans in that area already have their teams and it takes time hoping for the generations later will make the fanbase stronger. Once again, thanks for the comment.

The 1998 season was an absolute disaster. Carolina had a decent at best offense under steve beurlein, but their defense was horrendous. They couldn't stop the pass, or run. 1998 exposed Dom capers as a below average head coach
@90sSportsNostalgia Жыл бұрын
That '98 season seemed more disastrous than the 1-15, 2001 season, because things fell apart so quickly for Carolina after that 1996 season. Moreover, that incident with Kevin Greene and Kevin Steele made things look worse along with Fred Lane being suspended for his celebration. Thanks again for your comment. I enjoyed reading it.

What's notable is that the Panthers would be represented really well in the world of Professional Wrestling. Specifically in WCW, you had Kevin Greene (RIP) main-eventing PPVs against Hulk Hogan, and the very first release by the Panthers only turned out to be Bill Goldberg, who was the top guy in WCW in 1998-99.

Yeah it did. Rae Carruth, Kerry Collins, Rashard Anderson, Todd Sauerbrun, Fred Lane. That’s why Carolina was never a team in the running for guys like TO, Randy Moss and others in later years when those guys became a available for wearing out their welcomes elsewhere because Jerry Richardson placed an emphasis on guys with good character over talent. The Rae Carruth scandal really rocked the team and the region because up until the Cam Newton, Thomas Davis, Steve Smith, Luke Kuechly years that’s mostly what they were known for.

Thanks for spending time watching the video. If you're talking about where is Steve Beuerlein in the thumbnail, you know what, I probably should have put him in the thumbnail. But with all due respect, I'm almost certain I talked about Beuerlein in the video (near the end because it was 1999) and his tremendous 1999 season as that Panthers offense was tough. But perhaps I should have talked about him more as that's on me. But Beuerlein was awesome in 1999. Thanks again, enjoy the upcoming football season.

As a longtime Panthers fan, revisiting footage of that '96 team makes me long for something better than what the team is doing right now. S/N: the '95 Panthers are also the first and only NFL expansion team to defeat the reigning Super Bowl champions as they beat the Niners in San Fran that year, 10-7.

George Seifert would be in the Hall of Fame today if he hadn't taken the head coaching job in Carolina. Seifert held the highest winning percentage of any coach in NFL history until he coached the Panthers. George Seifert's Carolina Panthers went down in history as one of the worst teams to ever play in the league....his time in Carolina ended what was to be a certain Hall of Fame induction.
