This is really good. The only thing I would add to this is that aside from Caroline's appearance and personal hygiene, she did not exactly find her new husband entirely a catch either. She had also made comments that he was different to his portrait and was incredibly overweight.

I learned so much about George IV that I had never known before! Gobsmackedly shocking 😳! 😳! Both of George and Carolina were absolute clanging disasters! I am amazed that the country of England didn't fall apart! My honest opinion would probably result in me being put into prison! So tragic about their daughter Charlotte, especially the badly bungled management of her giving birth to a stillborn son. 😭

From The Times upon the death of George IV, "There never was an individual less regretted by his fellow-creatures than this deceased king. What eye has wept for him? What heart has heaved one throb of unmercenary sorrow? ... If he ever had a friend - a devoted friend in any rank of life - we protest that the name of him or her never reached us."

Only half of that was what I was taught in school. such as it was King George III upon learning of his son's secret marriage ordered his son to dismiss the woman or face financial ruin. And that he never saw Fitzherbert again. But to get Parliament to pay his debts off, he married Caroline whom they had chose for him. That is what were taught, I guess History is written by different men each with their own version.

Spot on Nana. History has always been rewritten over the years and everyone assumes to tell the definitive story. Although we will never know the whole truth it's what makes history fascinating and very debatable. Thanks 😊

Jon, you really shine at story telling. There was certainly no lack of material here! Yikes! But then one must remember - they were only royals due to the accident of birth - they didn't, and don't, spring forth from the womb, ready for their duty. They were and are just human beings, like everyone else, frequently ill-disposed due to natural character. Still and all, these two really take the cake! 🙀

Kathryn & Jon do you think she had a mental illness. I think George was in love with his first wife & if living a normal/common life would have stayed married. His nasty mistress was no help. Thank you again for another great video.

Hi I was going to ask do you think in your opinion Cathrine Howard was innocent
@HistoryRoadshow2 жыл бұрын
Innocent of what Raumaan?
@raumaanking2 жыл бұрын
Well based on her life and how she was an abused child and based on her cheating with Henry the 8 and the fact she wasn’t exactly royal material how did Henry Expect from a child that did not grow up in a good environment taken advantage and Henry was like what on his late 40s at this point and Catherine Howard a teenager she had a full life ahead of her but because of her past with other men lead to her downfall I think she is still innocent and she was an abused child that’s what I mean in my opinion I think Cathrine Howard is innocent
