Fun fact, paisley as we know it in western fashion was based on/inspired by traditional Indian printed textiles and I just think that’s interesting
@CarolineTucker11 күн бұрын
Yes! The name paisley actually came from a town in Scotland that started to reproduce replicas of the designs from India in the 1800s…I think paisley motifs originate from Persia and like 2000 years ago!

Yes I was gonna recommend the podcast Dressed and specifically their episode on Paisley to learn more about how this print came to be named after a Scottish town instead of its place of origin!

Having graduated high school in 1974, I lived those most excellent styles and designs, and I've been here for it always. It's my favorite decade, both fashion-wise and music-wise. I'm the gal wearing the patterned maxi-skirt with cowboy boots and fur-collared maxi coats; as an artist, colorful, flowy garments just appeal to me, and marvelous textures like velvet and brushed cotton and silks...and of course, I also have paint-splattered overalls. I mean...of COURSE.

It seems that you have influenced me SO MUCH because - most of the things you mentioned in this video, I have also been excited about for a while and have been buying them or planning to buy. Just two weeks ago I was in Turkiye and bought 2 beautiful skirts with paisley, one boho and one folk-like. I got bracelets with colorful pearls and have been drooling for more jewelry with them xd Chartreuse (but also brown and orange) has been my most sought out for color as I have nothing with it and I want everything with it. I've also really been thinking about stealing some workwear from the men in my family AND I specifically want to get a few 70s halter tops (and whatever has chartreuse in it ofc) for the spring and summer. And while looking for inspiration in the outfits of the people outside, I mostly look at older men and women which you mentioned as well and gave a fascinating point about. I would never copy you but GIRL you have influenced me so much!! 💞😂

The pearls thing reminds me of how Queen Elizabeth I would have many of her dresses covered in sewn-on pearls, but after she would wear one, she would have the pearls snipped off & sewn onto a different dress; apparently, royals and nobles would often have gemstones removed and switched out to a different outfit. They even would sometimes have a sort of premade trim for certain parts of their clothes (ex. the neckline) with gems and precious metals that could be tacked onto whatever they wanted to wear next. It made them look opulent without needing to buy as many jewels, and it was a great way to change the look of an already expensive outfit. We definitely should bring back this sort of versatility in clothes decoration.

Would it be totally gauche to recommend my own channel if you're looking for older women to follow? I called it Hussies and Hags because a big part of getting older is mindset - you can have days where you feel like a hag when you're in your 20s, and you can feel like a hot hussy when you're 80! So my channel is about feeling like your best self through fashion (regardless of age), personal style, thrifting, and generally just being a middle-aged badass! 😂 Regardless, I always enjoy your videos - you're one of the young creators I like to watch because you're fun and I learn from you, so I really appreciate you acknowledging that us older ladies might also have wisdom to impart - thank you for that!!!

First, I love your content, it's fabulous. I am a fan. Second, I have a critique, I hope you're ok with hearing it (sorry in advance bc I am not trying to be a shitty commenter with lame opinions). To me, the paint splatter overalls don't hit the same if they aren't distressed uniquely to you. It feels disingenuous? Like, paint on clothes to me has a cool factor, but it's exclusively cool because it's like a battle scar (with a painting or craft, in this case). But a fake scar isn't cool - it's a bit weird, forced, fake. Does that make sense? I hope you understand where I'm coming from. I think if you find it cool, maybe it's something you should experiment with and treat it as your open door to get into painting!

Hey, I don’t know if you’re aware, but boho and bohemian are racist terms that were made to stereotype and appropriate Romani fashion. I know it’s a really common term, but I ask to take a moment and be mindful of the communities that have been harmed through fashion.

@goldengrace283310 күн бұрын
Hello, Roma on my mom's side here. None of my people that I've discussed this with take any offense to the term bohemian. Bohemia is just a place. "Gypsy" insults some of them, but mostly we're a proud people hard to insult. There's actually a lot of pride about the word bohemian because it's applied to people that think outside the box, who make art and poetry, and who combine and honor beauty from around the world.
@zenith584410 күн бұрын
@ that’s really nice that your family likes that term, but a lot of Romani advocates, educators, historians, and creators don’t like it. Especially when you know the French history behind it. You are more than welcome to use it as it is your word to reclaim. There is a huge problem with Romani fashion being appropriated without proper respect or acknowledgment, using boho adds to that lack of acknowledgment
