I think Elle’s main issue with point 1 is that they erroneously assume that current jeans are the baggiest they can get. Which is not true - they can be MUCH more baggy. Same for the chunky sole - we are not even close to the end of the axis, rave platforms would like a word.

Well, when it comes to riding boots, they were here for ages, coz they are simple, elegant, timeless and siutable for mild winter. I stopped wearing mine like 3 years ago, I think, because I wanted some change. And for harsh winters are deffinitely better boots with chunky soles, which I wear now. Anyways Id like to bring into your attention, that there might be another correlation- baggy jeans or trousers/chunky shoes vs. leggins or skinny jeans/riding boots. It turns us back into reason and practicality of our fashoin choices. Chunky shoes are usualy paired with baggy trousers because you dont want to drag your trousers on the wet pavement. Also skinny jeans are paired with riding boots quite often, because something has to cover those ankles in winter and they work if you want to create a silhouette with lighter bottom half. Great vid as always!💚

yeah i think making big statements about shoe trends is always kind of silly, because people (as in real people in real life, not fashion people in pictures) are not going to have a different shoe option for every outfit, and those practical shoes are probably getting worn a lot more often and for a while longer than smaller trendier pieces. no matter what outfit i'm wearing, i'm also going to have on one of two pairs of trainers, both of which have quite hefty soles because i don't like when my feet hurt or i fall over. i own two pairs of fun going out shoes - and significantly more fun clothes that i could wear to go out - because the occasions where i feel like it's worth it to get blisters so that i look hot in the supermarket are extremely limited. but i can wear a miniskirt with anything. of course im not throwing out my everyday shoes to replace them with a new pair of less comfortable shoes.

YES YES YES o my this is EXACTLY MEEEE I just didn't know how to articulate it !! like, I wear clothes that are just 'too big' , like mens XXL bc I like the way big baggy clothes feel. 'baggy jeans' are sooooooo different to a pair of jeans that you need a belt to hold up and have to roll up the bottoms and have holes in bc they came from ur dads 'cutting down the tree' clothes options or whatever. yes I love this comment.

I have the solution. Mild hoarding. Hear me out. Im 34. Im old enough to have witnessed at a minimum one trend resurgence. My solution has been minimally participating in each trend while maintaining a closet that is majorly what is considered “clean girl” or “quiet luxury” aka bland and unassuming, so that way, i can mix and match it with the trendy pieces i have kept in my closet for the past decade or so. That way youre always prepared

Elle must be having a laugh if they think I'm giving up baggy jeans when they come in so many different flavours! They can be so versatile when it comes to the silhouette of an outfit- when you're building around a piece like a baggy jean you can manipulate the vibe so much with just the length of the top or by tucking them into boots, etcetera. I feel like articles like this push the narrative that your clothes can't change with you as you grow into newer styles/trends. Clothes bought in the past year or so can be reworked into an outfit for 2025 or into different situations. Be innovative, be creative, i think we've collectively put less thought behind our purchases, but if we think more about how clothing fits into our lives, and thinking how it doesn't always have to be fashion versus function, realizing we can and should have both will be great and sustainable in the long run !! **bit of an essay lolz
