I'm still working on Count of Monte Cristo. I have about 90 pages to go. And when I'm finished, I'm going to have a Monte Cristo sandwich.

Please join me in applauding Carolyn (and everyone else) who read The Count Of Monte Cristo. Viewers here know she’s wanted to read it for so long. Now it’s a question of how long till she decides to give it a re-read. Also, as a huge fan of Kafka, thank you for the Kafka and the Doll recommendation.

I'm glad you mentioned how kind Kafka was. In reading his work, I also find that he was funny and so creative. He had an unhappy relationship with his father, and his health was poor, but he was kind and compassionate to others in spite of his hardships.

You are so adorable, Carolyn. It's truly appreciable that you take the feedback from your admirers on YT. 😉Also, thanks for being there as many of us had hardly anyone around them that read books, so it sometimes increases loneliness. Thank you for helping to fend off that feeling a bit with your videos. Keep smiling and exploring more! 😘🥰

Still reading The Count of Monte Cristo but loving it! Loving Fable and beginning Middlemarch. I love being able to annotate the e-book on Fable and see other members of the book club opinions and annotations as we go! Yay for finishing The Winners. I’ve not read the series but I want to now as you loved it so much. Seeing your joy when you speak about picture books is making me want to return to some of my favourites. I grew up in England so it is interesting hearing that Leon had not read the ones you read together as I’d not read them either. I’d be interested to see a video chatting about the picture books you both grew up with. I’d be curious to know how much crossover you had. Sending love to everyone! 💙

Can't wait to read George Eliot's Middlemarch with you this March! :) I think you'll really love it, Carolyn, since you loved Tolstoy's Anna Karenina! I loved that too, and on the surface the two seem similar!: two psychologically and philosophically penetrating books centered around love and marriage but also about many other facets of the human condition! Anyway yeah, excited for our March Middlemarch march hehehe. And if you can finish so many books in 1 month I supposed you might finish all of Middlemarch in March too 😅 I'm afraid I'm not that quick tho, I prefer digesting on it (I'm just on the early chapters so far but already it's just-WOW) slowly and writing in a journal how it relates to my life experiences and seeing if Eliot’s psychological acumen could shed some light onto my own life, and chewing on her philosophical aphorisms she beautifully sprinkles about here and there.

I'm on Chapter 20 and as I was reading it, I automatically started comparing it to Anna Karenina. I love it so much already. So many beautiful, powerful and at times even breathtaking passages. Amazing!

@@ewelinahernon6556 Right?? I get the same experience that Lydgate has, many times while reading the book :) : "As he threw down his book, stretched his legs towards the embers in the grate, and clasped his hands at the back of his head, in that agreeable after-glow of excitement when thought lapses from examination of a specific object into a suffusive sense of its connexions with all the rest of our existence-seems, as it were, to throw itself on its back after vigorous swimming and float with the repose of unexhausted strength-Lydgate felt a triumphant delight in his studies, and something like pity for those less lucky men who [have not read Middlemarch.]" Hehehe

I am actually reading Barbra Streisand's autobiography which is really a big book but worth it, it is fascinating and intimate. I am about 80% through it's 1056 pages. She tells every detail of her life including her movies. So, if there are some movies of hers you have not seen, there is full disclosure, she tells the whole movie, but if your a fan like me, you enjoy it. I also read a new author to me D E Stevenson, she wrote books in the 1930's, I read her most famous series Miss Buncle books. This is just pure fun, and a joy to read, extremely funny. I just got a copy of Don Quixote and I am waiting for my copy of The Count of Monte Cristo, so I am afraid I will be very late to both of those. I am all set for Middlemarch. I will start it today, I can't wait!

Thanks so much for inspiring me to read The Count Of Monte Cristo! I agree that If Beale Street Could Talk is heartbreaking, and the film adaptation is great as well. Also, in reference to Where The Wild Things Are, and in particular the line "We'll eat you up - we love you so", I would recommend checking out the song "Breezeblocks" by the band Alt-J.

I find that when a book is great and I know it is, but something just didn't hit, it usually means I read it at the wrong time in my life. This happened when I read the Bell Jar in 2019. I re-read it recently and practically annotated the entire novel. I was astonished at how little I got out of it the first time, and how much I got out of it the second time.
