Hi Carolyn. While writing East of Eden, Steinbeck used a notebook in which he wrote his daily manuscript on the recto pages and kept a journal on the verso, consisting of letters to his editor and friend. Those letters were published as Journal of a Novel by John Steinbeck. He recorded the life of a writer, with notes about his family, hobbies, and thoughts about his life and the process of writing the book. I've been reading Journal of a Novel on Kindle and highly recommend it. I'm glad you plan to read East of Eden; it's a favorite of mine from my university days.

So many are lovely, Carolyn 🙂I've haven't bought anything off Etsy for years, not because I don't want to, but it all boils down to the freight charges sadly as I live very very far away! But I am very tempted by your beautiful author art to frame on my 'Library' wall 🙂 I love how you've incorporated the author's writing on the page as well. Yesterday I was in a Salvation Army charity shop and found a brand new copy of 'Go Tell It On The Mountain' by James Baldwin for $2.00 NZ (which is c. $1.20 US.) Score!!

Even now, having seen it so many times, the coloring of the red rabbit is awesome. Likely the creator can't quite grip how awesome the coloring is.

when you mentioned that people use your portraits as bookmarks it made me wonder if you would ever design any actual bookmarks? perhaps with your tote bag designs?

Yes, I’ve been wanting to make actual bookmarks for years 😂 It’s one of my goals for this year (as soon as I have more time)!

So looking forward to the restock! By the way, do you have plans for doing the author portraits for Japanese authors? Would love to have people like Haruki Murakami, Mieko Kawakami, Yukio Mishima, Yoko Ogawa, Natsume Soseki and the likes joining the shelf 😍 that’s a lot, but perhaps Murakami can lead the way first? 😆
