La Boum Locations in Paris La Boum 1(1980) and La Boum 2 (1982) - French cult film filmed in Paris

From 2018 to 2022 I tried to find all the locations where the films La Boum and La Boum 2 were filmed, excluding the ones in other countries, and this is the result. I hope you enjoy. Contact me in German, English or French for further questions.

La Boum is a cult film in France and at least Germany but probably many other countries as well, with Sophie Marceau, Denise Grey, Claude Brasseur and Brigitte Fossey.

How did you find all those locations? Seriously... Did you watch the movies umphteen times to spot any clue that could help and googling the locations of bars, shops, restaurants? Or did you spend days "walking" on streetview? Or you actually were walking around the area of the Pantheon for example?

If you look at my channel, the first time I filmed this was 2018 and I had found a list of the top 5 locations online and we went there and I had different street adresses and then they turned out to be all in 2 min around the pantheon. And on our way there, I realized that one shot must have been filmed from the street we were on, so we stopped my Ex's scooter and started filming. And then I watched the film over and over for any clue, and the worst was really the fight scene with the father and the teacher, I watched it 10 times until I saw that the little sign said Lyon Paris, and that is a highway. So it must be some street leading to the highway. And I looked on google map any direction that you could take and had to give up .. and in 2022 I had found the location of where the teacher lives and as a joke typed in how he would get to Lyon, and suddenly I saw that it all makes sense, the little traffic light, the building in the background .. I got lucky with one bar that can be seen for 1 second in the film, because it is still there after 40 years, and every time I posted, I got hints from other users of "hey, the station is actually not Gare de Lyon, try Gare de Bercy" and then you look it up on google and it is exactly how it is in the film ... and then I spent a lot of weekends going to the places and film them. The longest trip was to this little village where the grandmother got married, 2h in train, tram and bus and there is only one bus every 30 min to get back, and then also to the concert hall (that one, someone gave the address online but I still had to go there and see where exactly it was). The most exciting find was Planade des Olympiades, where someone said in a documentary 10 years ago they said the McDo was there, but then I could not see any resemblance, the shops are all different, so I asked in a bakery and she did not know but the elderly client next to me had lived in the building in the background for 40 years, she did not remember mcdo but she could tell me "well, this building in your photo is the one over there" and once I had that, the mcdo was easy

@@carola-lifeinparis I don't follow you (shame on me), it's just that last weekend one of the channels here aired La Boum and I mostly listened to it (some funnier scenes I still watched), and I became courious about the locations and your video came up. The most surprising fact in your video was that the bus-ride in La Boum2 actually took them closer to their destination, while - if I remember correctly - in the movie they said it took them to the opposite direction. The movies were huge success here (on one site here, people gave 9.2 and 9 points out of 10) and everybody from that era knows them. Years ago I heard that if you ask people here to name a french actress, they mostly say Sophie Marceau, very likely because of these movies. The music is also in everybody's ears. Just checked that this weekend I could (and probably would) watch both movies. :-)

Amazing work! Congratulations! I have seen very often both movies as french tv channels plays them at least once a year. Though I gotta say you have made a great job finding all those locations. Not so easy after 40+ years!

La Boom was very popular in Japan. I was a college student at the time, and I remember watching "La Boom" and "La Boom 2" from morning till night, day after day. I visited Paris a few years ago, but was unable to visit the places associated with the films. I would love to try next time. I believe that "La Boom" was Sophie Marceau's most brilliant work.

if I lived in Tuscany I would absolutely try to find the "under the Tuscan sun" locations :) Das Boot is a bit more complicated as it was probably shot on a stage :) and not really under water. I love that soundtrack.

@@carola-lifeinparis It’s a short trip to Tuscany, what are you waiting for? And totally worth it. I passed through Cortona(one of the film locations of the movie) without knowing it, and when I looked back at my photos there was just a photo of a dirt road-why did I take that picture?😁 If you go, don’t miss Arrezzo and Lake Trasimeno. There is a certain quality of light in Tuscany and those places capture it quite fully.

All of the locations are very interesting... love the way you explain directions and where the buildings actually are vs where they seem to be in the movie! I must see this one and sequel.Can't believe i've missed them after all of these years. It is such a favorite. This was a lot of work... impressive. thank you for posting it. things have advanced in the area of sound engineering and dubbing... but it (dubbing) always reminds me of the classic Japanese Godzilla and Mothra movies...at least beat behind the dialogue...lol

Sehr schönes Video, ich bewundere wie akribisch du recherchierst. Ich kann noch einen Drehort ergänzen. Hierzu habe ich selbst lange suchen müssen, aber es ließ mir keine Ruhe. Die Kirche in der Anfangsszene von La Boum 2, wenn Vic den Bus nach Salzburg nimmt, steht im österreichischen Krispl, gegenüber vom Restaurant Krispl-Wirt.

vielen Dank :) Die Orte ausserhalb von Paris hab ich weggelassen, da es einfach finanziell nicht moeglich waere ... Aber wenn ich in 3 oder 4 Jahren dann ein Update hab, nehm ich gern Salzburg mit rein, und auch den Badeort Dauville und das Kasino :)

Thanks so much for this informative clip! I teach French in Australia and have shown both La Boum 1 and 2 to many classes particularly in the 90s and early 2000s. Love these films and my students have too! Only problem is that I cannot find the films with English subtitles! Do you know how to get these?

Hallo Carola, vielen Dank für deine toll recherchierten Beiträge! Als ich La Boum das erste Mal gesehen habe, war ich so alt wie Vic... und heute kann ich die Drehorte auf Google Maps virtuell aufsuchen. Ich verstehe allerdings nicht, was du mit der Lage des Lycée Henri IV und Vics Wohnung meinst. Sie verlässt das Lycée doch nach Westen in Richtung Panthéon, und dort befindet sich doch auch die Rue Valette? Was meinst du damit, dass sie in die falsche Richtung geht?

Nicht zwingend komplett falsche Richtung, aber sie wuerde an der Kirche vorbei in Richtung Rue Valette laufen, und stattdessen ist sie am Zaun vom Pantheon, als sie zur Party eingeladen wird und das ist einfach eine sehr merkwuerdige Kurve, geradeaus statt nach links, und danach sieht man sie an einer Telefonzelle, um ihre Mutter anzurufen - ich weiss nicht genau, wo die stehen soll, aber sie wurde 30m von ihrer Wohnung entfernt gefragt, wuerde man da nicht von zu Hause aus anrufen? Ich finde es auch verwirrend, wie oft Leute an der Schule warten, um sie dann im Auto mitzunehmen. Es gibt zwar immer eine gute Erklaerung, zb dass das Auto des Vaters auf dem Vorplatz vom Pantheon geparkt ist oder dass die Oma sie ja wirklich woanders hin mitnimmt, aber es fuehlt sich dann eher so an, als haette sie mehr als 3 min Schulweg.

​Hallo @@carola-lifeinparis, kleiner Nachtrag: Ich hatte gestern Zeit, noch etwas herumzustöbern und bin mir inzwischen sicher, dass die wunderbare Szene in der Telefonzelle 7:55 nicht an der Bushaltestelle, sondern an einem ganz anderen Ort gedreht worden ist. Bei den Dreharbeiten zu LB2 gab es das sternförmige Bahnhofsgebäude nämlich schon; es wurde bereits 1977 und damit fünf Jahre vor den Dreharbeiten errichtet. Der Kreisverkehr im Film ist auch so klein, dass das Gebäude dort unmöglich Platz gefunden hätte. Im Film sieht es natürlich so aus, als würden die beiden einfach kurz über die Straße laufen; das stimmt aber nicht. Mein aktueller Favorit ist der viel kleinere Kreisverkehr, der sich ca. 200m nordwestlich der Endhaltestelle befindet. Das ist aber geraten, ich habe - abgesehen von der Größe - keine Anhaltspunkte.

Ich wuerde zu gerne wissen, wieso diese Holzbalken auf der Insel sind, und wieso da so extrem viele Lichter zu sehen sind, ohne dass man eine abzweigende Strasse sieht ... Sollte ich die Stelle finden, gibt es noch ein weiteres Update. Ich plane sowieso, ein Video ueber die Drehorte zu machen, die nicht genau dort gedreht wurden, wo man es vermutet. Oh, siehst du bei der Anfahrt zur Boum, mit beiden Eltern im Auto und Vic im beigefarbenen Anorak, irgendein Anzeichen, wo es gedreht sein koennte? Meine ueblichen Spionagefaehigkeiten verlassen mich, ich hab kein einziges Merkmal entdeckt, nach dem man gucken koennte. Ich bin mir nicht mal sicher, wie der Strassenverlauf dort ist, ob rechteckig oder ob die eine Strasse schraeg abgeht.

@@carola-lifeinparis , haha, so ein Zufall... Genau auf diese Szene habe ich zuletzt einige Zeit verwendet. Der Ort führt ja zu DER Schlüsselszene des ersten Films hin, und ich habe mir das Bild vermutlich insgesamt eine halbe Stunde lang angesehen... Du irrst vielleicht damit, dass es gar kein Merkmal gibt. Im Hintergrund ist deutlich das Wort "Credit" zu lesen, und da es sich nicht um eine Werbetafel handelt, war ich mir sicher, dass sich der Eingang zu Raouls Wohnung 1980 in der Nähe einer Bank befunden hat. Es handelt sich um ein vergleichsweise modernes Gebäude (60er oder 70er Jahre), das schräg zur Straße ausgerichtet ist, also an der Ecke einer Kreuzung liegen könnte. Ich habe versucht, an diesem Punkt etwas zu forschen, bin aber nicht fündig geworden. Sicher gibt es die Bank nicht mehr. :-( P.S.: Zu Val de Fontenay wollte ich dir gern noch ein Foto verlinken, aber KZbin lässt das nicht zu. Du findest das Bild, wenn du in der Google-Bildersuche die Suchbegriffe "Val de Fontenay" und "1977" eingibst. Es ist dann gleich das erste Bild. Du kannst dort deutlich am linken Rand das abgeknickte Wartehäuschen erkennen, das auch im Film zu sehen ist. Meine Theorie zu den Lichtern war bisher immer der Bahnhof und die dazugehörigen Gleise. Leider passt das aber so gar nicht zu meiner Theorie zum kleinen Carrefour im Nordwesten von Val de Fontenay.

Ach stimmt, das hatte ich mir auch notiert. Und man sieht auf der geraden Strecke eine Art Restaurant oder so mit einem gruenlichen Vordach. Und neben der Telefonzelle sieht man ganz kurz AUTO und eventuell Palace Auto. Von der Gegend her muesste es in einem der reicheren Arrondissements angeordnet sein, es waere logisch wenn Raoul auch im 5. oder 6. Arrondissement wohnt, aber ich weiss nicht, wieviel Ruecksicht sie darauf genommen haben. Aber egal was ich gesucht hab, war immer eine Sackgasse.
