This is by far my favorite ride in all of WDW; that's right, I said it. With all the talk of progress, and looking to the future, I always get so excited; not to mention the song is incredibly catchy. I hope it stays active in Tomorrowland forever, especially since Walt had a big hand in making the COP. One day, when I can get through my sever anxiety, I hope to go to the park and watch the show in person again.

I don't know why, but I just teared up just now. I am so happy to hear about the new costumes in the final scene. I've wanted an update for years -- a complete overhaul, new animatronics and everything, tbh -- but at least it's start in that direction. Or, shall we say? Progress? *boom boom tiss* 😝

If they were to make a 2nd carousel of progress and make the last scene of this carousel the 1960s, and then start the 2nd one out on the 1980s and up 20 years per individual spot like they do with this, that might be a good point for the 2020 one.

For a show about progress, it seems rather out of date. I am admittedly not very knowledgeable on this particular attraction, so I do not claim my thoughts to be objective truth. The jump from the 40's to the "future" was rather jarring; as an updated attraction I expected there to be a smaller time gap between past and future. The "future" was also more akin to present day than I had expected, since VR and voice recognition are already well established technologies. Based on other comments I assume this is because the storytelling has not been majorly altered in a long time. My impression of Walt Disney, from what I have heard, is that he strongly believed that Disneyland should change and adapt to provide magic for new generations. I find it a bit ironic that an attraction that was meant to show the wonders of progress, feels stuck in the past. The Carousel of Progress was and is wonderfully designed and executed, and it clearly holds a lot of nostalgia and joy for a lot of people. I don't mean to discredit that, I very much enjoy it as well. I just felt like sharing my thoughts. :) Feel free to add your thoughts, or correct me if you see fit; and to the poster(s) of this video, wonderful quality, thank you.
@YourUltimateFlorida3 жыл бұрын
Most feel the same. The history of the ride is this is the exact ride at the NY worlds fair back in the 60s. It was ge sponsored to show appliances over time. Minor refurb when he stopped sponsoring. There's always rumors of minor update replacement if last scene. I think this might just fall into the touched by Walt nostalgia event though.
@themisfitowl25953 жыл бұрын
Well considering that the show building is on a carousel with only 4 show locations, it's difficult to show the progress of what now amounts to 120 years. Back when the show opened in 1967, it was only showing about 60-80 years worth of progress which made sense, first the 1900s, then the 1920s, then the 1940s. Since the 1960s were the present at the time, the finale showed what progress was expected to accomplish in the 1980s and showcased what was called Progress City at the end of the attraction. The end scene was updated in 2000 with what we see today, so yeah, it's a jump of about 60 years. In a perfect world they would add more show scenes to reflect the progress of the 80s and 2000s, the rise of the Internet, Cell phones and such. But alas, it is what it is.
@allcapsROB3 жыл бұрын
The thing is, Walt had the show designed in 20 year gaps. Starting at the turn of the century, then the 20s, then the 40s. The show aired in the 60s so it would’ve made no sense for the future to depict the 60s. Walt had to go even further up for the “future”. Which for the 60s depicted pretty much A culmination of the 80s and 90s and early 2000s. The ride is stuck in the past and that sense, but part of what gives the ride a soul is the nostalgia of it. To change the storylines and upgrade it too much would be to take away from what it is/was.
@YourUltimateFlorida3 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the show would work shifted to 80s, 90s, 00, future. So much changed in those years, although not in the kitchen.
