This might be the greatest single thing that the immortal Walt Disney ever made. I first rode it at Disneyland in Anaheim in March 1968. Thank you, Walt. You shaped my psyche.

yes, not only is it the seats but parts of the stage show itself (the rooms where the other family members are sitting). Highly advanced for the 1960's and it's still considered a technological wonder. This was Walt's favorite ride and he requested that the show never close. I'm glad it hasn't. This was one of my family's favorite rides, especially my grandpa's. It's tradition that we ride on this ride when we visit the Magic Kingdom

I rode this three times my last trip here. You ride it because you want to sit down, rest your feet, avoid the crowds, and watch the only ride in Florida built by Walt himself.

Yeah. True, his company has had a few ups and downs since he passed on, but it's gotten really amazing. :) Meeting him would be a dream come true, and the cast members in his parks will know he is their REAL boss.

The song in this version was in the original Worlds fair version. There are recordings of walt himself singing it. The "Now is the time" song was added in the seventies. They went back to their roots here.

I first saw this in 1982. The teenage daughter was originally portrayed as going to a trolley party (1904), then wore a yellow rain slicker with current slang written on it (1920s). Those two things probably got changed with the the years because changing audiences wouldn't understand them or find them dangerous.
@AttractionSpot
@AttractionSpot 12 жыл бұрын
Its the audience the moves. Thats why they tell you to be seated. If you look for another video in the middle of the ride the cast member is freaking out and yelling a bunch of times for the people to sit down when they wernt listening.

There was a central core that never moved and a outer core that moved around the central core. The older design did not have the house of the future, but instead had a escalator that everyone went up to see the city of the future you then exited upstairs and came down the ramps.

Actually that was a teenage boy who died trying to save his little brother who couldn't swim. They were on Tom Sawyer Island and missed the last raft back. So they decided to swim across the Rivers of America. And by the way, they sneaked onto Tom Sawyer by climbing a fence. That's why they decided to swim back rather than call attention to their sneaking in by asking cast members for help.

@gcrebel2008 that's because the show was made for 1964 new york world fair. At the time the carousel stopped in 1900 1920 1940 1960(the present at the time). In the 90s, they had to redo the ride(new script, new music and props), the only scene to cange was the present scene(since it's not 1960 anymore).

Well right before 1993 it changed dramatically on the last scene from a 70's version (which at the time was modern) to a modern version of the 90's, but it's all the same otherwise. Only thing they changed was the TV design from a projection TV to a Plasma. I just went to Magic kingdom though last week and the ride was closed for renovations. Don't know what they were doing, could have been just a tune up, but I don't know how long it was closed for.

My god this is creepy to watch. Knowing a cast member was crushed from this ride for getting too close to the edge. I was just at Disney a few months ago and almost went on this ride. I know it's safe so long as you follow the rules, but the concept of what happened is so spooky.

Sad thing is, I've been in that building where it used to be. They constantly change the building that its never the same. I remember when I was in it, I think the ride was innovations at the time. I just found out about the death thing, I always wondered what would happen if someone was stuck or whatever since it rotated...now I know. I'm shocked there haven't been haunted reports in that building. :/

they don't run this when crowds are low; it's usually closed for refurb or to save money during low crowd seasons; it always says it's open seasonally, which means it's just something else to help manage crowds during busy times; it can't be that much help though, i don't know why anybody would ever ride it twice

Now if someone could just splice together a video of all the changes in the fourth act of the Carousel of Progress that was supposed to represent the present day and possible future developments. I've found the 1967 version and an early 1990s version. The early 1990s version was where the theme song was "Now is the time".
