Carp Fishing With Meat - "The Meat Feeder"
After receiving a few questions on our social media channels about using Luncheon Meat as a bait we thought it was about time to we ventured out and tried to answer them!
Now ultimately, in general Meat is a big fish bait, so we decided to pick a venue which contained a decent stock of relatively large Carp, the venue we choose was Colton, part of the Barford complex.
There are many different ways to fish with Meat, but one of our favourites is fishing it through a feeder; a meat feeder!
In this session we try to demonstrate the way we like to fish it, the rigs we use and the way we prepare the baits and of course, ultimately try to catch a few fish!
To find out how we got on and to hopefully pick up a few tips, watch this latest episode from the waters edge.

I hear a lot of people say meat is no good in the winter but I have used only one bait which has always been a success all year round which is bacon grill (some other type of spam or luncheon meat) marinated in smoked paprika and hemp oil. The ground bait I use can vary but not much, usually either soaked pellets, bloodworm groundbait, a mix of both or hemp groundbait and maggots. I mostly catch with the soaked pellet and bloodworm mix

What size and weight is the baitfeed cage? What size is those bands to fasten the meat? What size Sensas riddle is that and the mesh size? What size Map do you use to cube the meat? Whats the hooks size and line size?
@FromTheWatersEdgeTV
@FromTheWatersEdgeTV 3 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to ask Steve to check, but I think the feeder was 1oz, the bait bands 4-6mm, the riddle for cubed meat 4mm, the meat cutter for hookbaits 8mm. Size 12-14 hook, 6-8lb hook link.

40 years fishing bread hair rig bloomer ripped of with your fingers you will get a feel for it so you don't rip the bread to bits be carful get a good inch and over cube with nice fluffy bread attached to crust push your needle thru the fluffy side so it will hide the bait stop when loaded the weight of the bread should be enough to give you a good smooth cast if you need to get out more give you bait a split second dip in the lake but don't forget to cast as smooth as possible so that you don't put to much drag on your bait or it will come of if you have not tried this method before then you should and one single splash of bait instead of all the disturbance of two hitting the water has its advantages two and also because of the drag of line it will 70 % say likely to land with the hook completely out of the water and leave 4inch of line completely away from your bait but plain old bread simple straight though hook is the best and in my opinion in a wind unless it working your bait and you are in full control don't bother but if its in your control your going to have a good day just a hook and line is all that is needed don't do the double slash any carp or fish with any brain knows that did not fall of a tree love the method used it since a kid with hook and line wrapped around a peg and now ive got a rod all the kit I need but the method of simple all ways pay off been drinking sorry up at 7 208 cant be late

Hi Steve Yet another great video i am going to give this meat and hemp feeder a go on my club water. While you were fishing did you find the hemp and meat mix dried out (did you need to dampen it slightly or was it ok) and did you keep your hook bait meat in water. PS keep up the great work as i have learnt a great deal from you guys I'm even thinking about giving the beach fishing a go after watching your videos FTWETV has got to be one of the best fishing channels on youtube Thanks guys Brad

Hi brad thomas first of all thank you for the kind comments and for taking the time to post, it's much appreciated, it's always nice to hear too :-) The meat and hemp pretty much stayed damp all day, we did add some of the hemp juice too it at the start. I'm guessing it would be ok, but different weather conditions may dictate if it needs to be dampen etc for example on a baking hot day it may dry out quicker etc! Hope this helps! Nice to hear we may have inspired you for a spot of beach fishing too!!! There's a few fish about at the moment too I believe. If you do get out let us know how you get on, also if you fish this method! Thanks once again, be lucky and tight lines. Cheers Chris.

Cheers Jack Halford glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to comment. Don't worry we will ;-) Ummmm yeah it would work in the winter, however it wouldn't be my chosen method if it was really cold. I'd go with either the method feeder/banjo/pellet feeder probably, depending on the type of venue I was fishing I guess. :-)

Hi Neil Smith glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Ummmm I'm not too sure really, I perhaps wouldn't use it in really, really deep water, as some of the feed may escape from the fine cage feeder. However I reckon it would be ok in water depths of up to 8-10ft I guess.

Hi TONTIZZY ummmm I would do if the fish was extra large, however it's very rare, normally once you have a few turns on the spool you can normally control most commercial fishery Carp. :-)

I was wondering if you move the feeder after letting it settle, to get the meat & hemp out of the cage feeder and to pull the hook-bait into the feed area?
@FromTheWatersEdgeTV
@FromTheWatersEdgeTV 8 жыл бұрын
You can do for definite. Twitching the feeder slightly is a nice tip, you'll often find you might get a bite straight after doing so, it can sometimes trigger the fish into feeding.

Hey guys, great video and some good advice :)) I had a 11 foot feeder rod, 2 bite alarms, rod rest and some new reels. Both have 6lb line on and on Sunday i am going fishing to a local lake to test it out, what sort of methods would you advise on a mild-ish day? I am using a waggler and feeder rod, maybe down the margins using pellets on a banded? Cheers guys :) - James
@FromTheWatersEdgeTV
@FromTheWatersEdgeTV 9 жыл бұрын
Hi ***** thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video! :-) The method feeder and/or pellet feeder is a good place to start. At this time of year, depending on the water temp etc then natural baits, like worm and maggot will also be very effective. It's hard to give detailed info without knowing the venue, but I'm sure you'll be ok and that you'll bag a few! Best tip is probably make sure you cast around your peg, as at this time of year the fish can often be quite tightly shoaled together, but once you find them you will generally catch a few! :-)
