Easily one of the best tracks ever, even as an elementary school kid playing it back in 92/93 it always stuck with me even though I couldn’t understand the depth of emotion this track exuded from day one. It’s as if the mystic cave itself is calling out mournfully as you traverse it.

The way these retro game tracks were made was by taking a bunch of instrument samples and playing them at different pitches and times on top of each other. What these videos do is separate each sample track so you can see the individual instruments and waveforms. The Sega chime was a single sample.

@@JNSStudios Well, the MegaDrive really didn't use samples much beyond mostly lower quality percussion samples (higher quality ones could be used, but would cost more precious space in the ROM). The instruments on the non-DAC channels are all synthesized, either by the PSG or the YM2612.

This was never used for dust hill zone, dust hill zone was gonna use oil ocean zones track, which in my opinion, more sounds like a desert then this and the oil oceans track was in the files. Aswell is that oil ocean zone used the casnio night player 2 track in the prototypes. So dust hill zone used oil ocean zones track not the mystic cave zones player 2 track, and besides the player 2 track was already taken in the beta's by the hidden palace zone anyways.

Oil ocean's track in the finished game was meant for the other desert level (Sand Shower), Mystic Cave was originally not a cave so the name Dust Hill made more sense in development (and in the original concept it was Rock World ["ruined present"]), what I'm trying to say is that the zone that got turned into Mystic Cave already had the track used for mystic cave This track however was most likely made for Wood zone (this is made even more clear in Masa's demo tracks)

This track from the original 1992 Sonic 2 mystic cave zone multiplayer. But in the moblie version they made it into a level instead. You fall into a pit in mystic cave zone then u are in hidden palace.

@@Gbl1120 in the nakumura music demos released, the "HPZ" track, track 10, is labeled as a cutscene and ends as such. I'd have to find the interviews, but it is said track 10 as well was supposed to be played during a cutscene where Sonic was supposed to get access to Super Sonic. From my research notes I have as well, every two player track was used in some other level until the Censor proto which means that the extra tracks were repurposed last second once the team completely cut levels in its entirety.

You what I never hear mentioned is like Sega upgraded the Sega PSG like they did the vdp how would it be like here's what i think it would have been like first maybe it might have 5 sound channels compared to 4 and maybe one of those channels like the Genesis would play back samples but at a lower sample rate than the Genesis kinda how the PSG we have now could play samples but it took 2 to 3 sound channels so it wasn't as effective so yeah maybe it would be great but eh you never know

If they were talking about the original version, they would instead be commenting on the video of the original version deconstructed, and there would be no "or", in the comments, because instead of "or hidden palace deconstructed", it would be literally hidden palace deconstructed. There would be no point to add an "or".
